Airborne, they were supporting a band called Black stone Cherry. It may have been just the volume Airborne played at and damaged some hearing a bit. but BSC seemed very very muted after.
Where at mate ?In ‘73 or ‘74 I went to see Mott the Hoople. Support band were Queen. Hoople were better by far.
Liverpool Stadium. Not that shithole but an old boxing stadium that held gigsWhere at mate ?
Loved Japan and DRN. Saw DRN supporting The Stones at Maine Road. That debut album was brilliant. Jagger was never afraid of picking the hottest bands around to support them: ZZ Top, Van Halen, G n R.Japan supporting Blue Öyster Cult, Free Trade Hall 1978.
OK they went down like a lead balloon for most there, but opened my ears and eyes
Van Halen with Black Sabbath also gets another vote.
Dan Reed Network supporting Bon Jovi around 89 too.
Only went for DRN.
Pretty sure that was my first gig. Creep was the stand out track of whole night.Radiohead supporting James at G-Mex was amazing, think they'd just released Pablo Honey

1978 Van Halen supporting Black Sabbath, absolutely wiped the floor with Sabbath!!
The other time I saw a headliner blown away by the support act was also at the Apollo and it was Nils Lofgren being supported by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.
TP&TH became one of the world’s great live bands.
Nils did join one of the greatest live bands and his guitar solo spot in “Because The Night” is just one of the most spine tingling things you can see at a gig.
