Players who might improve us

Saka and Saliba both had 12 months on their contract not long ago. Should have thrown a few Van Persie type bids at them, show them who’s boss. Let’s not forget who’s been writing letters about our alleged FFP breaches. Had enough trying to appease everyone when most of the league and UEFA hates us.

This is delusion.

If there was any possibly Saka could be taken from Arsenal. The idea would be explored. Put the PS5 controller down Joe.

We don't have infinite amount of cash and the most important transfer window is the summer. Not now.

No one is talking about spending infinite cash. We've easily got enough money to address the weaknesses we have. If players are available even for £30m more we have to spend it. With the CWC after the season, there's no time in the summer to integrate players and get them to adapt. A lot will be having a rest during the first few weeks of the season. It's much better to bring in players in January if we can. Last summer would have been a better time to invest, the club didn't bother and still allowed Alvarez to leave. They now have to act in January to address things.

Too similar to Rodri? I wouldn't mind having ten Rodris!
That guy won’t sit on the bench when Rodri comes back. He is too good for that and still has options like Arsenal and Liverpool. Why would he go back to the bench? They can’t play together once Rodri is back. City needs a 6/8 someone who can play both or ideal a short-term replacement until Rodri comes back.

When Rodri comes back, he won't be playing 60 games every season. Rodri is so good that even he could be a number 8. I've said before that he can play anywhere from CB to Yaya.

Why didn’t he ever play the 8 then ? When he was benched for Thomas during the Atletico times ? It’s always so easy to say. There is no reason to switch a top 6 to being a good 8. He is neither the fastest or as mobile or let’s say as agile as the most top CM‘s. The comparison to Yaya is bad to the fact that Yaya was much faster and much better offensive player. Even if he doesn’t play 60. his Spanish NT backup won’t be his city backup too.

He wasn't exactly at Atletico long enough and was only 22 when he left. You say it's easy to say but I'd argue it's easier for you to say Rodri can't play anywhere except for DM. Have you seen Rodri around the opposition box? He's got an eye for a pass and can make intelligent moves that draw out defenders. David Silva was never quick but always had more time than others. Same with Frank Lampard. Intelligent players can adapt and Rodri is definitely one of those. You also don't have to switch him to 8 all the time. The team can adapt and evolve, new systems can be adopted and there's no guarantee that Rodri doesn't have a setback. The comparison with Yaya is not because they have an identical playing style but because Yaya went from DM to AM. At the last World Cup, Enrique had Rodri at CB. I really don't think Zubimendi would be starved of game time if he arrived. There are so many games and he's realistically still 9-12 months away from being back to his best.

Hed suck here. We don't play quickly enough and his ball control and close dribbling is average.

Some great players won't work here.

Hahaha this is the problem, we’ve won the fucking treble, have Pep and won the Prem 8 times but the possibility of getting a 21yo Saka with 1 year left on his contract is the stuff of fantasy. Are we a big club or not? Have Arsenal won anything?

Watching Pedro Neto play recently made me realise the importance of having experienced goal scoring wingers in our team.

It's crazy that we decided to forge ahead for this season with a 20 and 22 year old, when I think back to the days of Sane and Sterling, and Mahrez coming off the bench. It’s not just having experienced wingers in the team, it takes a degree of pressure off Haaland.

I know there are a lot of gaps to fill and this probably isn’t the highest priority, but I think it was a significant error of judgement to rely upon two kids on our wings.

Yeah. The stuff of fantasy. It was never going to happen, which makes it a fantasy.

There was no concern at Arsenal even though he had one year on his contract. Such was the certainty Saka isn’t leaving Arsenal.

Fully agree

The guy won ballon D’or as number 6.

Why would anyone suggest playing him anywhere else.

Just for a shiny new year.

Zubi and Rodri can absolutely work together. Rodri isn't just any other 6. Zubi is probably more of a traditional 6 than Rodri right now if we're being honest, more defensive minded. Rodri is an all-arounder. Last season when playing with Kova, for example, he would be more advanced in attack and possession.

Because he's capable of playing in a variety of roles from time to time? I just don't buy that him and Zubimendi can't both be at City.

I respectfully disagree.

I’m not saying he can’t but if you have the best player in the world in that position you play him there.

I can’t remember who said Football is a simple game made complicated, but this kind of feels like that.

Winning the treble means you won the PL, CL and FA Cup. It doesn't mean you win an additional prize of getting to cherry pick your domestic rivals' best players.

There are so many other variables. For instance, Saka being a London lad and boyhood Arsenal fan, the fact he is on 300k a week.

It cant be done

In fairness I don't think we anticipated Phil, Jack and Bernardo having one League goal between them in December.
