Too many games are damaging players

Maybe Chelsea have the right idea? If you need a squad of around 30 with some players ring-fenced for certain competitions then logic says that once again the richer teams will come out on top as they can afford bigger quality squads. The clubs can't complain if their players aren't 100% because they're knackered due to the clubs playing them in more and more games. As long as teams chase the money and participate then FIFA, UEFA and chums will keep increasing the number of games. I'd rather see a lot less club international games and a simple PL with a simple knockout European Cup but it won't happen, the money men will see to that 8-(

Right. I’ve posted elsewhere that the number of games means Pep must change his idea that 18 is the ideal squad. We need 20/21.

I think football is going to eat its self from the inside..far to many games.
People are getting bored of football every day of the week.
Like the fa cup it's gone from Saturday 3pm to a full weekend.
Friday night.
Saturday.
Sunday and Monday.
Unfortunately the money people, (the ones for whom more than enough is never enough), think that if they can show football matches, any football matches, all day every day, then they will increase the number of viewers and thus their revenue too.
These people have little or no interest in the game itself, only the money and will promote as many games as possible as having some importance to them. I mean, at the end of the day, it's all football is it not?
As examples, women's football is mingled in with the PL and new competitions like UEFA Conference and Nations League are artificially portrayed as having real meaning.
It's like WSL is on a par with the PL,
ECL is on a par with CL and NL on a par with the WC or Euros.
The (theoretically) ever increasing revenue stream from all these matches will come via the usual avenues.
For me, though it's a turn off as I am sure it will be for many more.
I will always have a place in my heart for City, but I am becoming increasingly dispirited with the way football matches have become just another networking opportunity.

It's not as bad if you limit your focus to just the one club, in my case City.
Screw the rest of 'em!

See his press conference yesterday he knows this but also he says can it be affordable to do it, he mentioned Chelsea and he probably wonders how they can afford to do it. He definitely needs to have a bigger squad like you say but they won’t all be top draw so there’s an inevitable fall off when the lesser plays rotate in. Obviously if you can keep your core elite players injury free and rotate one at a time not to burn out then that’s ideal, but like he said Rodri played 75 games last season then comes straight back in, we bought Philips as his back up and that didn’t work out, it’s a balancing act the club has with FFP to have a good enough squad at the right price. You could have 30 second tier or 15 top tier with 7/8 lesser players.

I think the FIFA World cup will kill clubs off for at least another season.

I'm excited about the tournament but the big European clubs players are fucked. Yet FiFA demands our big boys will play.

Franco's Madrid are kicking off with them about it. As a club we seem to be too wedded to the idea as a political ploy against UEFA's treatment of us it could be another inconsistent season after. Especially with the PL not helping us or Chelsea recover out of spite for us representing the league.

Watched the program regarding the 2003 Rugby World Cup,Seeing the squad trainingfor the year prior to going to Australia, listened to how stressed they were afterwards, and their lives afterwards, and how they lost their way,If you see it advertised watch it,an eye opener.

I keep meaning to see it.

Their greed wont allow them to see that saturating the market will eventually damage the sport and desensitise football fans fron getting excited about it all.

I bet they are fuming punters aren't buying womens football tickets in the same numbers, people can't afford it and haven't got time for both.

Madrid played yesterday and are now off to Qatar to play in the Fifa Intercontinental Cup, a new annual competition.
Just too many needless competitions and international matches

Indeed.

Greed of organisations and owners is killing the game.

I feel we reach saturation point years ago. I thought it was my age and I was growing out of the sport at one time. Now I just think there's way too much of it and it has to take something really special in a neutral game to get me excited about it.

Use more players. Easy. If you constantly only use the same 15 players of course your players are gonna hurt ä. Why only use 15 if you can have more. In the NBA they completely rotate during games too.

As someone said earlier. I think Chelsea cracked the code.

Have separate squads for separate competitions. Part of me is tempted to put a tenner on them winning the world club championship because of it.

This. Excluding internationals, we could play 60 games over a season. There will be 10 outfield players and 5 subs per game, meaning there's 900 slots to fill over those 60 games. No player should be playing more than 40 games ideally, maybe 45 at a pinch. So we need 23 senior players minimum, which doesn't include the youngsters like O'Reilly, McAtee, etc.

We have 17 senior players, excluding those out on loan, meaning they'll be playing 53 games each on average. I agree there are simply too many games but we have to look at our squad, which is thin even when everyone is fit.

Again nobody is mentioning the Elephant in the room, why don't players who are wealthy in their own right speak up or tell ther clubs to fuck off?

I struggle to support them if they can't speak for themselves.

Think the penny may have dropped with Pep belatedly

Chelsea have/had the right idea might of cost them 1.4b but the team that played in Europe Thursday was totally a different 11 the main squad didn't even get in the plane! Stayed at home rested up ready for today's game!

Oh the cheeky bleeders asked for the game to kick off later because of Thursdays game being so far away!

In theory, that's fine, and for us who typically qualify for everything every season, it could work. But most teams are not in our shoes, and aren't guaranteed qualification to these extra competitions (and we're doing a good job of showing that our qualification is far from certain too). And that's the main issue with football nowadays generally. You don't know, for the next 5 years whether your players are going to be playing 40 or 65 games, so the only way to do it is to flog a small squad, or buy a huge squad and risk discontentment when half of them never get any games and it's impossible to give any youngsters game time. In the olden days, a decent cup run would give you a few extra games. Nowadays, mere qualification adds 25% more games onto your season.
