Bruno Guimaraes

Genuine question, who do people expect to see in January if Bruno is allegedly not good enough? I would be astounded in the most positive way if we even manage to get him, a player of his calibre. That would be an incredible purchase for January.

He has legs, aggression, passion. He is exactly what we need, IMO.
he isn't an improvement, would be another sideways step pluging a hole where other areas are more vital which is our form recently with transfers.

the lad at AC or Atalanta are better fits

This guy aint a 6 and therefore shouldnt be a priority.

next question is that at his peak is he anywhere near a Gundo, KDB at their peaks? - answer is no....is he even Foden level - No...or Bernardo Silva level - No -

I dont get why we are going for this guy if we are.....he just isnt all that...I think this is another example of a transfer that if we do go through with it we will regret in the future (Phillips, Nunes being two other examples of this)

Anything more than 50m and we are getting ripped off and we are getting a player well below required standards for the next incarnation of this team which should be looking to get back to the top....

Newcastle is his level
Disagree. He can play a 6 and an 8. His biggest asset is being able to play those positions excellently. If we can get him for 70m that’s great business.

He’s a good player and better than all our current midfield with the exception of Rodri. Others, possibly even better could join and reinforce the midfield in the summer. We will need 3 midfielders replacing the ones that look likely to leave

Death by faint praise!

Let’s wait for those “others, possibly even better” to show up before slinking last years profit on Bruno!!!

he’s arguably one of the best box to box midfielders in the prem? who could we get in jan thats better? his level will improve if he joins, super confident of this one. hopefully we get this done

Exactly what we need, a player with fight and who can win the ball. The balance of the midfield has been totally we’ll not balanced.

How many people on here have actually watched multiple full 90s of Ederson, Reijnders or Guimaraes? You just have to assume and hope that City’s scouts have done their jobs and chosen someone that will work

newcastle fans love bruno. and rightly so. i've been chatting to a few newcastle fans and they would be sad but prepared to see him go if the price us right. i think they would prefer 70-100m but would see 75m as decent business. giving them some psr breathing space to strengthen. their main fear is that we unsettle their player and move on.

i've said to them that we need a 6 now and an 8 next season (rodri/gundo) and they reckon he's better as an 8 than a 6. they also think he's the wrong player for us if its pace we're after. and that tonali is a better 6 than bruno.

my feeling is that even if he is slow thats ok as neither rodri nor gundo have ever been lightening quick. for me 70-75m would seem right.

Guimaraes, many times. Ederson very little. Reijners 1 or 2. I'd take him over the former 2.

I watch Seria A Rejinders is pretty consistant sitting as a holding and has added a few goals to his game when he advances in midfield, also has some pace to his game which with our high line and tendency to get caught by the counter may help , whether the rigours of the prem would be a different challenge only him coming would tell.
Ederson not watched as many Atalanta games but their postion and consistency makes me think he is probably doing a good job and seems decent the few I have watched.

As for guimeres, only watched maybe 10 geordie games a season and never seen what the fuss is about

He is the one. But will be expensive as fuck

I don't think Guimaraes is the right player for us, but I've got concerns with a number of players we're linked to. At his age I'd want and expect a lot more experience in the CL in particular. He's good but inconsistent in the league. We've bought too many players recently who haven't proven themselves at the top level and I worry he'd be just another that turned out not good enough.

Yaya, Fernandinho, Gundogan were all either proven or had a lot of CL experience. De Bruyne was young. At 27 Bruno doesn't have much on his CV. Plenty of Brazil caps but he's only established himself in the last year or so there, and they've been pretty shite. Reijnders I have the same concerns. Ederson is younger and you could probably take a different view with him. He's in the CL this season and I watched Atalanta v Real Madrid and he was very impressive. He's very comfortable on the ball both in defensive and attacking areas, I just wonder whether the freedom he gets at Atalanta helps his game and if he didn't have it at City he'd be as influential?

He's the player I'd try to get out of all of them, but probably the most unlikely and we don't really have the time to wait.

To be fair, we are not exactly talking about hidden gems from small teams. We are talking about players from well known teams in big leagues. Without exaggeration I think I have watched these players between at least 15-30 times each. I guess it depends on if you watch 1-3 games a week of PL football or 10+ games a week of football from multiple leagues.

The finance doesn’t work that way. We have much more than 80M and whatever his salary may be.
Haha! I understand how the finance works and was merely pointing out that one Guimares equals our highest profit ever, so he can’t be a knee jerk reaction…especially given the £200M we spunked on Grealish, Phillips and Nunes!

Strange how split blues are over him. He is a brilliant player & works his ass off. He’s exactly what we need in midfield right now. Him & Rodri would be unplayable

I agree, also been so surprised by such a split. I think Bruno is a fantastic all round combative midfielder.
A lot of talk about pace but I don’t think it’s pace that’s causing us such problems, it’s the fact we don’t win the duels for the 2nd balls which mean we turn over the ball then we’re chasing back 30 yards. Bruno’s the best in the league at winning those.

Also last year kovacic with Rodri gave us such control when played togather think Rodri and Bruno could take that to another level.

Suspect the fee will be less than expected as well just based on a hunch.
