PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

It's a classic political strategy mate, I mean Roman historians talking about the Second Triumvirate wrote about it.

It is about drawing lines. You have to draw the lines of moral acceptability so that you are inside of them but your opponents are outside of them, no matter how squiggly those lines are they will be justifiable with the right rhetoric. It's simple really, you investigate human rights abuses of owners but not minority owners. Or full owners but not sponsors. Or owners and major sponsors but not minority sponsors. It's a sort of moral gerrymandering and they all engage in it, arguably its the basis of all political science itself.
Is the Second Triumvirate now called The Championship?

Well, this narrative that a 'red cartel'/'PL cabal' assembled in an under ground bunker, and created FFPR to stop Arab owners, could not be further from the truth. The Glazers, Gillet & Hicks, Kroenke & Lerner did not want anyone snooping around in their financials, especially after saddling those clubs with huge debts from LBO's and asset stripping for their own financial gain. And Arsenal had just spent 1 billion on a new stadium. Abramovic was definitely not in favour of financial regulation, either.

FFPR came from France and Germany. It was not created here. The only reason why it was adopted so wholeheartedly by the PL, was to stop their prized assets from being bought out by American businessmen and hedge funds trying to make a quick buck. They feared that if enough American owners could get a strangle hold over the league, then the possibility of a European Super league would be unstoppable. And it almost did happen. FFPR was the only thing that they could use to put them off. They also tried to get a law passed that LBO's had to be approved by the minister for sport.
Sorry but it was proved in the other case and this that the red shirts plus spurs got together and tried to change the rules to hamper us and to some extent newcastle , even giving evidence against us , in favour of the prem . They also lobbied CAS to punish us , it is proven the cabal is real

Congrats @slbsn

Stefan's battle with Nick Harris was the most listened to episode in 2024 on the excellent Unofficial Partner podcast (a very popular Business of Sport pod). It gets very feisty about half way through. Brilliant stuff :)

So Everton have become the tenth EPL club to become American owned. Half of the EPL clubs could now shelter their financial records legally in tax havens such as the Cayman Islands.
Just worth a mention.

Just imagine if there was 5 owners from Saudi and 5 from Abu Dhabi? Oh yeah it would never happen Because the premier would bring rules in to stop it!

All Americans think of one thing in purchasing a sports company club how much can they get from it without putting in as possible!

You should try it. Maybe on a temporary basis. A change is as good as a rest. Seeing as you're in East Manchester, you're not that far from Leeds. You could support them while they are winning and gain promotion. Then, you can come back to City next year, totally refreshed, when the charges are done with and City have all new players. That will be just in time for when Leeds start getting hammered again, in the Premier League.
No you're alright mate. Thick and thin always.

you'll have to learn the welsh pronunciation of wrexham though.

Really??

The Glazers couldn't find their own backsides in an arse kicking competition. They haven't won a title for 12 years, due to their shambolic mismanagement, lack of experience, lack of judgement, weak ownership, non existent leadership and a complete lack of direction.

They rarely ever visited the UK, and appointed company stooges from the Banking industry to run the club. This is an asset stripping exercise, pure and simple.

And you think that these are the same guys that are pulling all the strings???

This is quite frankly laughable and preposterous.
The asset stripping reached a zenith with the sale of shares on the NYSE. The Glazres said the money would be used to pay down the rags’ debt. Amazingly, this never happened and the proceeds of sale disappeared into their pockets. Scruffy Jim/Ineos has bought the remaining shares, 25% (?).

That's how I remember it. Iirc, it was first dreamed up by Platini with the noble aim of increasing sustainability by regulating debt. But he got beaten down by the big clubs, including but not limited to Bayern and United, to restricting investment and stopping another Chelsea. Which morphed into stopping City, and then much later Newcastle, when it was introduced in England.
Yup. The G14 told Platini that they would leave UEFA and set up their own Euro championship, if he included debt. ( see Martin Samuel in the Mail). One question: “Why did the PL follow the same path and exclude debt from their regs?”

Assuming that limitation comes into play, and that the IC adopt the same approach as CAS, then anything prior to the 2016/17 financial year will be time-barred.

That rules out the Mancini contract and probably Fordham as well, leaving just one or two years of the sponsorships and the non-cooperarion stuff.
I suggested at the outset that City, if innocent, might be happy to play out the evidence even if time barred, since no ruling could be made. I was not supported by other posters!

I suppose for things to be time-barred, then fraud would have to be eliminated. No fraud, no issue. It's not like at CAS where there was a strict 5 year limitation and they didn't even look at those issues?
