The Sorry Tale of Our Water Companies.

But, but, but that thick bitch Thatcher said it would be more efficient and so much cheaper.
I'm more concerned with now than 40 years ago, many a twat has had a chance to change it. I actually thought when the true picture came out of the amount of shit getting dumped everywhere it would force action.

We are literally apathetic to anything us brits, not even turds daily in the sea and river.lights a spark.

The government should just take over the water companies with no compensation. The problem being that the water industry needs massive investment and this would have to be paid for by us. Only for it to be sold off again by a future Tory government to one of their mates.
Could they not bring in a law that would forbid that, labour have enough of a majority to get that through.

Bread and circuses.

They, not excluding myself, would rather not know. Or leave it to the experts.

Well you can't do that anymore in third world Britain. Plastics everywhere, social media inducing mental illness, nevermind the endpoint of water what about what we're drinking, air pollution and civil unrest.

You have to poke and prod at problems, god bless "Karen's" for actually moaning when something's not up to par.

Governments can borrow more cheaply than any private company. That's why it makes sense to have essentials like water in state hands.

When it was Manchester Corporation Water Works, the managers were just on local government salaries. Now the managers are on £££££££££££££££££££s. But it's all so much more efficient and wealth-creating don't you know?

It's a national disgrace, people should just stop paying their water bills, they can't cut you off, and offer a quid a month. See what would happen then.
Bills would increase, as law abiding citizens would be burdened with the debt of those that don't pay. This already happens, but we would end up subsidising the non-payers to an event greater extent.

There is a pretty good article here about Scottish water. On the face of it public ownership in Scotland is far superior. Bills are less, water quality is better and pollution incidents are less common. However, that only tells part of the story. It's a good read for those that think public ownership will fix all.

It’s always raining up there that’s why the water quality is better! ;)

Will give this a read when I get chance in a bit - I'm always sceptical of the 'publicise it and it will be cheaper / better / easier etc etc etc'.

Doesn't compute in my head - surely they can be privately owned just actually regulated with strict consequences for continued failure?

All in all, they will all need to be evaluated on their individual merits, backed up with a specific plan and and a collectively understood success / failure criteria?

Private or Public, there is massive investment required to add to, replace and repair what past ages have built. the money will come from us one way or another. The country is falling to bits and water is only one piece of infrastructure that needs repaired and modernised. Rail, Roads……the list goes on. Oh if only we had had a fortune in oil sometime in the last 50 years. (Oh wait) :-(
