Boxing Day party with a DJ in The Angel on Gorton Lane yesterday afternoon and evening. Just 25-30 minutes walk from the stadium. Proper pints at proper prices. And it’s a blue pub with its own City room. Was fucking bouncing!
If that's the Angel pub Gorton lane /Wellington street no way is that only 30 minutes walk to the stadium lol.

That’ll never be called out by the live commentary team though, the way we were today

I didn’t think it was that bad today until tyldesly and upson started to get snide
Just before half time is their empty seat wet dream as thousands of piss heads head to the bar, no mention when Wolves fans do exactly the same

The simple truth is that not enough blues sing. It's nowt to do with acoustics, position of away fans, tourists etc. There are continual songs, the majority dont join in. When everyone can be arsed, the ground is as loud as anywhere!
That is true to an extent

But all the reasons trotted out for the lack of atmosphere on the atmosphere thread, every single one of them the fault of the club, are bigger contributory factors.

City kill the vibe to such an extent that even those people who want to contribute to the noise are subdued into virtual silence. It’s like being at a vicar’s tea party having necked a pill - you could be all up for some manic dancing and hugging every fucker there but soon enough the stony faced humourless throng will bring you down to their level and you’ll be sipping tea and discussing lawnmowers

If we’ve lost our gallows humour we’ve totally lost who we are
Think all the success has brought some snobbery amongst some of our fanbase.

I love the self depreciating humour and the not too serious approach to things.

I just laughed when Everton scored and said that I wasn't even surprised.

I find that the songs and chants are all over the place in different pockets of the crowd tourists are killing the atmosphere
I agree that the increased amount of 'tourist' fans are partly responsible ..... but it's also down to more vociferous City fans of yesteryear fast disappearing, or have already disappeared .... it's gonna be extremely difficult to improve that side of things now .... maybe if they had given us a proper kop or singing section at one end of the ground we could have 'bunched' all the more nosier fans together, if they'd been willing .. but I really can't see that happening now.

We've probably had loads of fans who have given up attending home games because they simply just don't enjoy the atmosphere, or lack of it anymore ..... people don't mind spending their hard earned money, but most of them will want to experience some enjoyment after spending it!

Football isn't what it was. I expect it never will be again.

For many of City's punters, it's now an expensive 'experience'. A thing to do that just happens to include a football match but certainly includes a meal and drink. It's a class thing, I suppose. Increasingly the crowd is like the County Stand at York Races whereas it used to be more like the Clocktower Enclosure. (The Silver Ring at some places.)

It's all about money and the management by choice and necessity wants to generate as many ££££s as possible. If they can sell a seat for £500 rather than £20 they will. But the folks paying £500 won't contribute much to the fabled 'atmosphere.' It's not what they're there for, quite frankly.

I'll not say the 'traditional' fan isn't wanted. They are tolerated, and fleeced for what they can be. Rags are charging £66 for kids and OAPs. That's the direction of travel.

Yeah i know loads who i never thought would stop going who’ve gave their season tickets up in the last few. All different ages and all say they don’t miss it for a lot of the reasons posted in this thread

It isn’t the English clubs’ way. We all marvel at what the European clubs’ fans do when they visit. That’s their thing. It isn’t ours.

The European way is slower coming in to our game lower leagues especially many clubs have them type of fans at games with drums, flags, think it’s a matter of time as the English culture in football does definitely not feel the same as it used to even 10 years ago only a matter of time before it happens at more PL clubs

10 years ago it was exactly the same as it is now. 20 years ago. 30.

The only club who has any kind of fan base that tries to replicate our European counterparts is Crystal Palace, and even that is only about 10% successful.

Our culture is different. It’s as simple as that and it has never changed and never will.
