Atmosphere 2024/25

The atmosphere matched the game, pretty dull and boring. I'm in the south stand level one safe standing and around me a lot of the crowd were chatting about lots of different stuff, only occasionally reverting back to the game. Slightly annoying it was like being in a pub rather than at the match.
Understandable as for long periods nothing was really happening. Southampton had lots of possession but aside from a couple of flurries thankfully they never really threatened. Still it created a nervous tension as the game was in the balance until the referee blew the final whistle.

many have become entitled only sing when things are going perfectly many can’t even be arsed watching the game spend a lot of time in the concourse even if we aren’t playing are best football right now we are still in a title race without our most important player. The lads deserve so much better from us than we are giving them so far this season
Good post. Definitely true.

The annoying thing about this thread is that we’ll all be the ones who care about the atmosphere so will be the ones who always try and sing. Those who don’t bother won’t ever be on here.

Saying that, there was something strange going on in 115 yesterday.

This was about an hour into the game. That’s the sort of thing the Family Stand used to get absolute pelters for for years. Yet that’s the main singing block in the stadium.

It’s the same at the start of games as well. Same block is like that until about five minutes into the game, regularly. Again, if that was the Family Stand it’d be in the Evening News with red circles around it.

You’d be hard pushed to find a singing section in world football where that would happen, other than ours. Most turn up well before the game and get a buzz going in the ground as everyone filters in everywhere else.

We where playing Southampton, I have been going for 40 years in all them years when we have played them I can’t remember a game when it was lively , I don’t get this the whole thing
The 4-0 win two years ago had a good atmosphere.

The concourse was rammed. Saturday 3 o'clock against bottom team what do you expect

Same thing happened against Fulham who would have gone level on points with us had they beaten us and that was an exciting game (they probably deserved a point that day, Ederson saved us).

Same thing happens for a lot of games at the start, singing section can be sparsely populated sometimes until about five minutes in.

It’s because it’s not a genuine singing section, there are singers in there, but there are plenty of people who don’t sing and would prefer to be on the concourse while the match is on having a beer with their mates, you pays your money you takes your choice, but you can’t claim your participating in a singing/atmosphere section if that’s what you’re doing.

If you want a genuine singing section where everybody is in the stand before kickoff and all still there after full time, and are hard at it, singing for 90 minutes, the club have got to help facilitate it, which they don’t. They ended any chance of 115 being a genuine singing section when they introduced the cheap season tickets in SSL3 so half the potential singers went up there, myself included, and the new stand (and possibly last chance) looks as though it’s going to be a mish-mash of everything.

We all want the same thing, but the higher ups at the club may pay lip service to it, but really aren’t interested.

Sadly I think your last sentence is true.

Top of SSL3 gets singers and most try to join in but the football on the pitch is dire to get behind, yes I know we are winning but everyone around me was talking about how it’s become so fucking boring bar the last ten minutes when the opposition have a go to try and salvage something from the game. This is not a go at City by the way if the opposition set up like they do it’s going to be the same all season, two banks of ten and we just have to break them down it’s almost like a training match. When we do get a breakaway which is rare you can feel the atmosphere lift that tells you all you need to know. I don’t think it will improve no matter if you put every singer in a stand together.

This has been the case for years now though and we have found a more exciting way in past seasons. This season the football has been a hard watch at home. We just look so predictable all game. The loss of Alvarez has affected that as he offerred something different. Hopefully the next few will be a bit more exciting against better sides.

Now can it be the higher up’s fault that people that buy tickets in a standing ,singing block would rather stay in the concourse when the games starting. Atmospheres in a concourses, stupidest thing ever.
