Catastrophic transfers are killing us.

Your right, there are no guarantees with young players, however what you stated above "mainly at sub elite clubs" and "i would have kept him" .....shows, like me, that you thought Palmer could make it at the top level ;)
I thought he had earned the right to be kept (or loaned).

Very strange decision to " Stay, Go, but no loan ", very strange.

Obsession with wingers has killed us now we have a shed full of them and are trying to play through the middle
Bleeding obvious we have always needed cover
centre Half Holding midfield
Media have rammed it down our throats that we’d be fucked if Vinny got injured then it was Laporte then Fern KDB now Rodri
What do we do ….. bring back Gundog
Don’t believe any of it but can’t help reading BBC gossip every day and 9/10 it’s claimed we are looking at wingers all the time ffs

One things for sure, I didn’t realise how good Mahrez was until we brought in Doku and Savinho.

Makes me appreciate everything he did for us now!
Doku I’m unsure about. But savinho has the ability to be every bit as good as mahrez if not better.

Lad needs time but his technical ability is not in doubt.

We certainly can’t afford to make the same mistakes in the next 2/3 windows. The signings need to be spot on. There are good players out there who can be signed at reasonable prices. We need to find them!
Agre, but the ‘reasonable prices’ nonsense needs to stop. If a player is good enough, pay what it takes. Reasonable prices is how we ended up with phillips and nunes.

Time to pay top dollar for top quality. You aren’t getting Wirtz or musiala type players for reasonable prices. And these are the quality of player we need to replace kev, gundogan, stones, walker etc…

I’m wary of us turning in to Wenger who became obsessed with unearthing gems as his transfer policy.

We did this with Alvarez but it’s far too hit and miss. For every Alvarez we have a plethora of failures.

I don’t think it’s necessarily the players we’ve brought in that’s been our undoing. After all, we’ve just won 4 in a row!

It’s more the fact that the spine of our side has completely gone at the same time. I’d class Ederson, Stones, Dias, Walker, Rodri, KDB and Haaland as our spine. They’re the ones who when fully fit, start in their favoured position.

A mixture of bad luck with injuries, poor squad depth and a sudden loss of legs (Walker and KDB) have contributed to this.

Of course, we can sit here and say the club should have cashed in on Walker and KDB in the summer. Or brought in an understudy for Rodri. But hindsight is a wonderful thing. Kovacic would have been a fine deputy for Rodri if we had a fit KDB and Walker (from last season) regularly playing. Likewise, spending the £80+ million required to get a stand in for Rodri would have been considered a waste of money if Rodri remained fit. A drop off was always going to happen, this perfect storm to our spine has just made it far worse.

The good news is we’re still in with a chance of finishing in the top 4, reaching the latter stages of the CL and a rebuild is around the corner. If we bring in someone like Ederson and Robinson to add some much needed mobility to the side in Jan, I still wouldn’t rule out this being a successful season.

Centre forward options is far more important than Centre half cover!

We only have 2 wingers, unfortunately they are not very good.

Priority.

1. Holding midfielder.
2. Striker.
3. Right back.

If we can get them in January, a big if, which probably won’t happen, we’ll be alright.

Or City have told Pep no money will be available (because of the 115 decision due next year), and have written this season off with just hopes of a CL place, and a good run in the CL and FA Cup with the current team and squad.

Will look better after a goal and the team picks up (hopefully), Mahrez was frustrating at times but delivered under pressure.

Seen enough, albeit fleeting, glimpses of talent in savinho. Hes got good skill, a really good first touch and whilst not rapid is still pretty quick.

That first goal is so important.

In my opinion, I think the latter is more likely to play out.

I think the transfer rumours in the media are partly a front and the club are happy to let a few be out there to keep the fans keen and on side.

However, until 115 has had a decision upon it, I can't see how we go ahead and rebuild "properly". Some need to remove the blue tinted glasses and realize that no top player will sign without a release clause or assurances that we will remain ok, and the club just cannot guarantee that.

If we do sign anyone, it will be another Echeverri, like the young lad from Zagreb we have been linked with. Players like that. Then in the summer if everything is fine we will go ahead and rebuild properly.

I think the club are right now relying on Pep to eventually turn us around and get us top 4, write the season off, maybe win the FA Cup and hopefully go again.

I can’t say I’ve seen anything in Savinho for me to think he’ll be better than Mahrez. Fair play to you though if you have.

His first touch, his skill, his little burst of pace. He’s really erratic though but he is 21 in his first season and in a struggling team.

The potential is there. He might not realise it but he has the raw tools.

Personally I think he becomes a very good player.

NoO elite signings in January.

In hindsight we massively undervalued him

But in view of the offer, we must have thought it too good to refuse.

I'm not sure he would have been able to play with the same freedom as he has at Chelsea, but he has done the business for them so all credit to him.

If as others are saying MacAtee looked to have better prospects , it is worrying that he isn't getting time with us.

Absolutely the potential is there to be a good player. Better than Mahrez though….i’m not sure.

Yeah I get that. I just don’t want us wasting £100m on Grealish quality players.
