Douglas Luiz

Doubt there is anything in this. Just be another underwhelming signing.

At least a loan is not a gamble like Nunes, Phillips, Grealish etc

He’s not at the level required and highly unlikely he ever will be either.
Think you’re right . If he was fit & playing well juve would want to keep him

I agree I don’t think it will happen.

But a underwhelming signing I’m not sure about. A loan move where we either sign him permanently if he does well or we then sign someone we can’t in January.

If anything this would be a great signing as opposed to scrambling around and getting a 4th/5th choice like we did with Nunes and being stuck with that player for atleast 2 seasons.

Not done so good at juve though he has a weight / fitness problem so will hardly hit the ground running . Surely other options available.

I don’t think there’s many options available. Zubi was probably the best bet as a 50m release clause but doesn’t want to move.

Sometimes moves don’t work out and not the only player that has struggled to settle in Italy. But not like no PL experience.

I’d be happy if done, but I’ll be happy with any decent signing.

Very impossible

Douglas Luiz moved to Juve because they offered double transfer for his partner and him together. There is no sign of any relationship breakdown. And he took the family and relationship very seriously. Highly doubt he will move so quickly.

Apart form that I think Luiz a good fit for current squad profile. He can offer plenty of running behind. He is not a solo 6 but can do a job with Kova together in the midfield. The only downside he is a very emotional player - hot blood like most of the Brazilians. Meaning he is able to melt down at random occasions - we have seen recently with Nunes.

Not sure if you are aware but, you are talking to yourself.

It's just a tricky one
Hindsight being wonderful we should probably have brought him back in the summer
We didn't and we'd now be risking his fitness, we can't carry more fitness concerns right now (I do get there is no 100% guarantee on anyone we might sign)
€51 mil in the summer. Maybe?

Loan now, with a view to a permanent move. 100% imo. Especially considering the state we are in now!! His thigh injury shouldn't be the defining factor on whether we do this deal or not. He’s certainly not injury prone with 300 games played at 26 years of age.

No guarantee as you say for sure but a one off muscle injury shouldn't be of any extra concern

No idea. Things change. We aren't in the same situation now as we were in last summer. The need for reinforcements in that area has drastically increased. He also cost £42m to sign, if we are looking at a loan, even with a substantial loan fee and perhaps even buy clauses inserted, it's a different league to what Juve paid.

I agree he probably operates best as a hybrid than a pure 6 but we are deep in the shit at this point, we find the best option to us, its unlikely to be a perfect fit but we take it, eat the cost get through the season and reassess. Luiz and kovacic is a substantially better duo in midfield on paper than anything else we can put out right now

Doing nothing is the worst thing we can do that's basically the reason why we are in this mess as it is.

You're correct it's an easy link to make for a story but that also doesn't mean it's not valid. Club may well be looking somewhere else but to us on the outside it makes sense, arguably the most sense.

We don't have the luxury of thinking purely long term this window, we screwed ourselves over and now it's firefighting mode. we can potentially find ourselves outside the top 4 for the first time in well over a decade, which will be very damaging, the immediate is more important than the future right now, there has to be an attempt to fix the problems. If we can find an ideal, perfect fix that works now and into the future too then brilliant, if not, we find a temporary fix and Viana has to work a little bit harder to earn his bumper new wages next summer onwards.
To be honest will Luiz save us? Nah, he’s an 8 and he was at City in 2018 over 7 years ago.
It’s not that great, he knows Pep’s system is a myth, he was here ages ago.

ok back in the summer Juve helped Villa "balanced their book" and offered Luiz & his partner a double transfer. Villa signed two overpriced deals from Juve. City would not do anything doggy with 115 ongoing.

Have you not watched us over the last 2 months? We've been utterly abysmal. Anybody competent, physical and mobile will make a massive difference to us right now.

Can somebody else improve us more? Perhaps, thats on Txiki to work out and get the best he possibly can but if Luiz is that, we would unquestionably be a much better side if hes lining up alongside kovacic in our midfield in a few weeks than whatever side we put out this weekend. What Pep wants from a holding midfielder in general terms hasn't changed, specifics obviously change game to game but he won't need a crash course on the basics, that's a big bonus.
