Douglas Luiz

Would be fairly happy with this. Club has got itself into a bit of a predicament and appear to be accepting that doing things the hard way are best. No quick fixes annd prepared to wait until the summer to go big. Equally Txiki has been very poor in the market so I am all for him not digging us further into the hole and letting viana have more cash for the rebuild.

Better than what we’ve got but doesn’t move the needle much.

Would be very lazy from the club imo, surely they can do better and find better.

Given our recent record, maybe they can’t.
Knows the league, knows the club, knows what Pep wants, should be able to slot straight in with minimum adjustment time required. That's exactly what we need right now.

Can't bring in somebody who needs 6 months to adapt, they have to hit the ground running. Who offers a safer bet than somebody who has already been here? It's a difficult position to play under pep, rodri himself was useless at it for nearly 18 months, I've long since said Luiz on loan is the most obvious, easiest solution

Practical I guess. More legs and decent at set pieces. Would put our midfield signings in the past few years to:

Luiz - previous player
Gundo - previous player
Nunes - last minute after rejections elsewhere
Kovacic (decent squad player)
Phillips...

Really not been a high point of scouting/transfer team since Rodri.
Ridiculously poor when you see it laid out in black and white.

My question would be, why didn't we sign him in the summer - when it was a very easy deal to do?

He played his best football for Villa as an 8, not a 6. Maybe we decided he wouldn't offer us anything Kovacic doesn't already?

See all the points. I’d be very surprised if this happens to be honest.

It’s an easy link, think/hope the club will prioritise the long term over getting a lad like Luiz in over the short term.
