Random City Players

Sad news, remember as a kid we had 2 Welsh left backs,Vic Gomersall and Cliff Sear.
Vic Gomersall was born in Manchester. I recall him from City reserves. He did make 39 appearances for the first team.

After he left City he played for Swansea for five seasons and finished his career in Welsh football.

I am not sure that made him Welsh?

MIke Horswill. We bought him at the same time as Denis Tueart, but he never made an impression. Spent his time with us as a professional drinking partner to some of the more established players, according to his memoirs. I was driving back from watching City play at Sunderland ten years or so ago, and he was hosting the local radio show analysing the game.

Mike Lester. Touted as the 'next big thing', but sank without trace.

George Weah. Joe Royle told him to 'sit down, shut up, and fuck off', so he did.

His funeral was about 3 weeks ago in Swansea. Sportsmen and fans from all different sports and variety of ages out for it. Top bloke round here

I was once at Twerton Park in Bath, for a City mid week, League Cup/ Milk Cup game against Bristol Rovers, with the wife, now ex., I think it was her last City game :0)

A very poor game, I think, it was nil nil at Full time, in Extra time, City introduced a sub who I never heard of play for us after this game, even though I think we won the game, 2 -1 in Extra time, with out penalties???

I could be wrong, they was a loud wining noise in my left ear !!!

Gary FLIPFLOP??

LOL

Even made the ex. smile :0)

An Isreali, Nir Bitton, played on trial for us and was going to sign during Mancini's reign but fell through due to work permit issues. We even spelled his name wrong on the shirt.

Talking of Mancini ..he signed a lad from Italy for us centre mid surname Pizzaro ? Only on loan I think

Very tidy neat Italian, didn't stay long and don't think he was too popular but I liked watching him play ,very stylish.

I was at that game, don't remember anything about the match at all!
Apart from Fitzroy Simpson played for us and he'd got tickets for two females in the crowd who'd he said hello to at start of the match..
No one had ever seen the two women before ,and mumbling about how they managed to get tickets in an 800 only away allocation.
The reason was obvious!

As most who were there will attest to, his introduction v Sunderland in 2012 swung the match and got us a late and crucial point in the title race.

So he would never have to pay for drinks in my local.
