Some will argue De Roon is more the DM and Ederson is more of a box to box CM in that middle 3
 
Appears to be a difficult signing to complete this January. With Ederson pairing up with De Roon in the Midfield for Atalanta and De Roon being 34 i think, you can see why they would be reluctant to sell Ederson. Atalanta have already identified 3 players, 1 of whom they would like to sign this Jan, to ease the burden on Ederson and De Roon whom play all the games without a break.

2 of these players are Michael Folorunsho (Napoli) and Warren Bondo (Monza) Both look like they have pace and maybe we could go for one of them. Then they can become a backup once Rodri is fit. Folorunsho at 1.90m is an absolute unit but fast. Bondo is also fast and both good in the tackle and breaking up play. Fees for either are around €15m.

It was always going to be a difficult signing they know we are desperate, so are giving it the indispensable bull, he is not, do not think he started the last game. But that matters not a jot, what matters is the price, £10 million loan till the end of the season, £45 million obligation £10 million first PL and £10 million first CL. they will not get a better offer from anyone.

Is what you have posted been reported, as I don’t know about a loan for Ederson with obligation. Perhaps if we went for Luiz there may be a loan agreement but not aware of this for Ederson.

Scalvini a top CB was used in midfield who had just come back from a long term injury. That allowed Ederson to be rested. Atalanta have Sulemana a DM. But they are trying to move him on as not good enough.

We both agree it all comes down to us paying Atalanta’s price. In the summer gone he was available for €40m and was potentially going to go to Newcastle as a replacement for Guimares if his buyout price was met. It didn’t happen, Ederson stayed and now Atalanta want more as not convenient for them to sell.
 
Fernandinho was an attacking midfielder for Shaktar until he was about 28.

If he has a couple of tools he can easily be coached into a pure DM if that is what Pep wants. But need to remember that actually having someone capable of covering ground and winning the ball in midfield could actually make current Gundo or Kovacic look competent as the holding midfielder playing beside him. Put 34 year old De Roon for example into our team and he will look like a pensioner. We need someone that can make life easier for the players we already have

It isn't but Wikipedia is a fantastic resource - if used intelligently. The simple point is that they are both described in it as defensive midfielders - which contradicts the claim "Title of the thread is wrong he is a central midfielder not DM" (which Dax is supporting) to the extent that the information in both entries is reliable. Which I believe it is.

I think my claim was that some viewed De Roon as the DM and Ederson as the CM.not that i think that.

I think if we are being technically accurate. They play with 2 central midfielders both kinda working the middle with Ederson being the more mobile of the 2 which lead some to concluded he is the CM and the other guy more the DM.

I don't care one way or the other, players are not positions and sometimes tactics change the meaning of a position. A DM is just a CM with a more defensive orientation.

More important is that he has the attributes to play DM. Kinda like Fernandihno when he joined us.

Its a middle 2? Where are you getting 3.

He absolutely is a DM.

You need to actually watch Atalanta play, he very often slots in the back line to make it a 4.

It might get into semantics on the difference between a DM and CM.
