Ederson (defensive midfielder Atalanta)

This is true. But I wouldn't rule out it could have something to do with them possibly getting some money to spend. Atalanta is usually not a club that spends significant money without significant sales.
 
I think Atalanta would charge 75/85m for him. especially in January with our urgent need of a DM. and not sure he would start for us once Rodri is back.

for that reason I dont think we are looking at him.

they are few points off the top, both napoli, Inter are more solid defensively than Atalanta, selling their main DM now is imo a killer for their title hopes could even set them back enough to lose their CL place which is currently looking nice with an 11 point lead ahead of Juventus in 5th place.

same reasoning on Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle have a decent chance to finish top4/top5, selling Bruno will kill that chance.
unless he has a buyout clause again Barcodes would charge us hell of a fee.

I think it will come down to someone like Douglas Luiz loan + option maybe as a more likely option who is a bit worse quality but still worthy compared to go with what we have now.

He definitely isn’t a DM though. He plays as a b2b midfielder. He’s much more of a Shakhtar Fernandinho than any version of Rodri. He could probably do a shift in the DM position for the rest of the season, but I think he’d mostly play next to Rodri when he returns rather than an outright backup. I think Rodri and Ederson would complement each other nicely, with Ederson playing more as a no8. Ederson could be the player Pep was hoping Nunes would be in midfield. My only concern is his ability on the ball, doesn’t look that good with the ball in tight spaces to me

Midfield isn’t tight anyway at the min, we ain’t facing low blocks anymore.

I think hed mostly play next to Kove now too. I think Kova is the DM for the season. We just need legs around him. Ederson if purchased will simply replace Kevin as a starter and wed play 2 holding mids. Phil and Kev will swap the 10 spot.

Do you know what a DM is? I ask simply out of astonishment at your recurring description of Kova as one.
 
He’s decent, but definitely not a DM.
Cant risk another Nunes situation, need someone that’s already proven to be great with the ball.
 
If we can get this boxed off and done for the summer I’d be pretty happy tbh. The player prob wants to stay and try and win the title which is totally understandable.

If we get the guy from juve now then I think we could make do to try and get top 4
