Metrolink to / from Etihad

Abysmal service home tonight. 15/20 minute wait for a tram is ridiculous after a game. If the club want fans to stay until the end they need to work with the council to invest in transport.
And on top of that when they actually saw fit to produce an Altrincham tram the bloody thing terminated at Timperley where we all had to get off and wait for the next tram

All the trams from the Etihad were going to Media City fat lot of good that is. Got of at Piccadilly Station and waited ages for an Altrincham tram, plenty of Eccles and Media City.

As I have repeatedly stated on here Metrolink is SHIT.

There were none for 15 minutes then two in a minute. Two people on speakers one saying beware of ice and walk slowly at the top and one shouting hurry up the tram is leaving at the bottom. The first tram left - as usual looking like an Indian train on a bad day and then they let the second go half empty. We were on that literally with empty seats as they let it go straight away rather than filling it

At about 2.10pm, before the game today, Mets were all backed up from Piccadilly to Piccadilly Gardens. We were on about the third Met away and were told we’d have to get off at Piccadilly and make our own way to the Etihad because a car was on the tracks between New Islington and Holt Town.

But the Mets weren’t moving and the doors weren’t being opened and we were just stuck on the Met until 2.30pm.

Finally we got off at about 2.35pm and everyone was on a mad dash to the ground. We went past New Islington and saw no such car on the tracks, then when we got to Holt Town we still saw no such car.

Then an empty Met came through and everyone jumped on at Holt Town.

I genuinely think they were on a wind up. It’s an utterly terrible service.

Annoying thing is n’all though is that all the pubs that have closed over the years near the ground add to this issue of shit Mets because everyone is piling on them and going to the ground at the same time. If there were more pubs, there’d be more options to go and drink in and a more spread out time where people are getting to the areas around the stadium (and the same after the game).

There was a broken down taxi on the road past what was The Mitchell Arms. No idea why they didn’t just push it out of the way?

On the way to the match I got off the double tram from Altrincham at Cornbrook and joined loads of other City fans waiting for a tram to the Etihad. A minute later in came an Etihad single unit, those in charge of this dreadful public transport system need shooting.

Buses back into town there was a shortage as well.
Another disgrace that there was no buses for those that did not leave early during the match.
I had to walk into town after the match.
Better than Leicester last week but with my knees a really hard grind.

That road junction should just be shut to traffic on matchdays allowing only trams or buses. This is what happens at most other modern stadia around the world. This is what happens at Arsenal, Spurs, West Ham, Chelsea for example.

Quite right. In fact, ALL the roads around the stadium should shut for an hour, from 5 until 6, with only buses and trams moving. People would stay until the final whistle and getting away would be a breeze (maybe not a breeze, but certainly better than now).
They also need to rethink the parking restrictions away from the ground. I walked along Clayton Lane yesterday and saw 10’s of ‘Resident only permit’ signs but couldn’t actuall see ANY houses!

It seems so obvious doesn’t it?

There are plenty of alternative routes. They shut all the adjacent roads at Old Trafford. Our stadium has worst transport than most grounds I have been to. We also need a proper taxi rank in a different location. It is not rocket science. The police are useless at that Holt Town junction. No control at all.

I know cnnits wrong but I Had to laugh yesterday when waiting for a few minutes for a tram to arrive after the match some bloke said to a Metrolink employee on the the platform. “Metrolink is fkin shit mate” The answer was “ Well don’t fkin use it then” Then on the tram the same bloke then had a discussion with a lady in wheelchair about how Walkers legs have gone!

Holt Town junction is poor 100%, but so is the next one up near New Islington station where Carruthers St crosses Merrill St - I tend to walk back to town after games and that’s the junction where I’ve seen incidents with cars and blocking.

The Bus service to Ashton after matches is appallingly.
What bus service? Last 4 games I’ve ended up getting a taxi back to the pub as there’s no bus there.
Should have 2 lined up ready to go, guaranteed full bus, for half the route they’d do coming from town.
Doesn’t help that the bus stop is full of coaches, minibuses etc. Be an idea to designate a parking area for supporters coaches and let actual buses get to the stop. Providing they turn up obvs.

That’s two home games in a row where a taxi has broken down on the tracks near Holt Town/Mitchel Arms. How’s that happening with all the Met/traffic stewards there? Just take the handbrake off and roll the car out of the way in seconds… don’t just fucking leave it on the tracks.

I imagine that all buses will leave as soon as they’re full. And all the early leavers are the ones who’ll fill them. So you’re punished for staying to applaud the team off the pitch or, in thousands of cases, punished for not leaving on 80mins.

You probably stay to the end, applaud the team off, shake hands with the lads you sit near and say ‘see you next week’… then you have no bus to get on.

After the match it was the usual shit show by the Mitchell Arms. As you say shut the roads. We walked past the mayhem. No trams could move because cars had blocked the junction. It's a farce.
Also, re the car on the line before the match. Our tram stopped at Piccadilly Gardens and a fan got on to tell us trams were blocked so we got off. Why was there no announcement from the driver ?
If it hadn't been for that fan we would have been stuck like all the other fans.
Transport in Manchester is shit. No ifs buts or maybes. Getting to and from the ground is becoming a nightmare and is starting to wear me down. ( A tram broke down before the Derby leaving utter chaos)

TfGMR is shit, utterly shit, the draconian parking restrictions introduced have only exacerbated the problem as well. City as a high profile institution could put pressure on the authorities to improve the situation, particularly on match days, but it would appear it’s something else they don’t care about.
