We can argue about who's fault it is, but if you can come up with some tactics that will work with midfielders and forwards who won't run back towards their own goal I'm all ears.

Let's be honest, our current midfielders and forwards work rate off the ball is piss poor.

Our press is shit, our getting the ball back quickly after losing it is shit, and they don't run back to help the defence.

Sadly the Stockport Iniesta (not you) is as guilty as the rest.

And I'm only using him as a example.. they're all equally guilty and that's why the person we seem to miss most is Julian Alvarez who was amazing with his press.

We need 2 midfielders minimum this window.. otherwise I don't know how we get the ball back unless it's a goal kick or a restart after giving up a goal.

Summer is going to be a more active with the midfield ignings. We can forget any major signing this month. Pep's comment has lit the fire with the our current set of players to fight for their futures. Khusanov would be decent.

I remember Pep saying year's ago, if you don't run you don't play.

Not sure wtf happened to that but it needs addressing.

Hope your wrong mate as we are desperate for midfield and if no one cones then we are in for a real horror next few months .

Grealish has really scarred our board and they are totally hesitant on spending another 100 mil on a midfielder.

Makes me wonder who authorised the grealish buy because half the season Pep spends on reprimanding Jack on multiple things.

I bring Grealish because between him,Phillips and Nunes we have spend north of 200 million pounds with not one world class player or consecutive good performance multiple seasons from them lot.

Mine too but he should apply the same to himself (which to be fair I think he does). He needs to step up and stop using tactics that worked in the past but are no longer effective. He needs to beat this challenge by implementing something new.

Don't know he believes control possession is still the right way to go we just need players in to stop the 4/5 transitions a game what Rodri did or made it a lot less

Yet we’ll continue to see gundogan in midfield before any younger players and continue to start as firdt reserve.

Hes probably just talking about walker or he’s having a pop at Grealish.
Definetly Grealish, basically said Savinho is miles ahead of him, he will be gone in summer if someone will stump up for his wages. I think Walker is done as well just whether he goes now if we can get a replacement but summer he will be gone.

Someone can offer him a 4/5 year contract on 150k a week and we sell for 30/40 m that then is open to a spurs or Newcastle And Villa could afford

Hard to disagree.

So will txiki give him some hungry fresh players in the next couple of weeks?

Possibly mate but if not, there’ll likely be a pretty big flurry of signings in the next window.

This cycle has run its course. The legs aren’t there and for some, neither is the desire or snarl. You can see some have checked out mentally and it’ll be beyond Pep to get them back in the killer mindset.

The importance of the next 4-6 signings cannot be emphasised enough.

Starting to be concerned we've nearly had a week of the transfer window and don't seem to be close to getting anyone in.

It might well be we don’t buy in January just to get numbers in. The signings imo do need to be long term solutions rather than quick sticking plasters.

Surely we need that DM in this window though mate?

Every signing is a gamble you can do research the player on and if the pitch as much as you want but once you buy a player see him train then play the player you then see over a few months if he is going to be the player you bought!

Saturday merely highlighted once again the blatant hole in our squad in central midfield - giving up 17 shots and numerous free runs at goal to West Ham.

No holding midfielder and until that is addressed we wont be beating any half-decent sides.

1 week in and despite 3 months advance notice, still no sign of any improvement in this area. Utterly bizarre.

I agree. It was the same huge gaps appearing between our forwards and defence as has been happening since Rodri's injury.

I dont understand why Kovacic hasn't either been instructed to, or chosen to sit deeper and protect the back 4 rather than play his more normal game, carrying the ball forward. As whenever he does that and the move breaks down, the opposition are practically two passes away from a shot at goal. I know he isn't exactly Nigel De Jong. But given the situation we're in, I had hoped by now, he would be sitting deeper and helping the defence out.

As you say, the lack of seemingly any movement so far is worrying. Yes, the window is open for a full month. But our requirements have been obvious for a long time and we have some big games coming up. A last minute signing (if at all) minimises the time for them to settle in before another tough run of fixtures in February.
