The prices for players keep bouncing between pounds and euros which makes it confusing.

This deal won't happen IMO. More than €40m for a kid with less than half a season of regular, top level football is not our MO.
Its a Sporting kind of deal which has Vianas fingerprints on. He needs to learn he is shopping in a different shop now, we need proven players not ones to flip in a couple of years. Its going to be a huge test for him.

And you think Viana is buying players now without the ok from Pep? Ridiculous take.

So why don’t we go for Bah then? Isn’t he like 12M? Another Nunes in the making where we pay more than he is actually worth. 40M for half a season is crazy.

I will openly admit i had never heard of this player before the last week or so and have seen nothing but a few youtube highlights since.

Do people think he is a better defender and has a higher ceiling than Callum Doyle, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, or even Harwood-Bellis?

Fucking hell hahahaha. Catch a few with that.

We knew exactly what we were getting with Nunes, he was already a seasoned professional & international, & one I never considered as up to the standard of Manchester City which is why his purchased made little sense to me then, & even less now. He was a panic buy after Paqueta fell through & it was obvious City wanted rid of Philips.

I don't know much about Khusanov, or how high his ceiling is, but unlike Nunes, he's pretty much an unknown quantity. If like Gvardiol we think his ceiling is high, then that's a call for our transfer professionals to make. It's a totally different scenario to Nunes.

We need more than one defender. Doyle comes back into the squad next year. JSP to go on loan and Harwood-Bellis isn't coming back.

If they try to make a bidding war, we will back out.

I dont really blame the club, the price cant juat double if those reports are true just because Madrid and others are coming in.

You think an organisation the size of ours wont have consulted the incoming Director of football on matters like this? Just going to hope when he arrives in a few months that the players we buy now are part of his vision? That to me is a ridiculous take. Who mentioned anything about Pep? For what its worth Viana will outlast Pep. Viana has a history of signing players in this mould to flip them for profit. We are in a desperate situation like we were in 2017 and need proven quality.

So an organisation our size will ask for input from the new DoF but won't tell him how we expect him to operate?

I am guessing Madrid will pay the 20m they are supposedly after and that will be the end of this story.

It's more important for us to "play it cool". Playing it cool is what put us in the position we're currently in...desperation.

You can play it cool from the position of strength, not when the whole of Europe knows we are desperate for signings.

I hope we're doing a rags on real and they sign a shit donkey.

Given his role, he will be the one setting the strategy given he is the man at the top now, im not seeing whats so hard to understand? Its the first window since he has been appointed, he hasnt officially started but would be very naive to think he doesnt have influence behind the scenes. My initial point being that its potentially the first transfer since he has been announced and if whats being quoted is true it is similar to the kind of deals he did at Sporting. Maybe thats why we hired him who knows but I personally think we need to adopt the old strategy we had of buying ready made players for the here and now(like we did in 2017) given our current predicament.

That was my initial point that seems to have been missed by alot of people.
