Ye, you can get away with not having a big presence in the middle if you control the ball and have a player who has elite press resistance but they have to be able to run which gundogan has sadly lost at the highest level

If football manager has taught me anything you don’t even need to register u21 yr olds for the prem. So if you can find 2/3 u21s you trust enough to play then you’re absolutely laughing in terms of squad size.

But yeah champions league you can only make 3 changes sadly.

We've played many matches where Rodri wasn't a necessity, but he was our only CDM option. In view of what's happened to him, I doubt we'll ever rinse him out the same way again.

He was playing 100% of the time. But he wouldn’t be happy with 35 games a season which would leave the replacement with 25 top at any rate.

Rodri complained about burnout & the risk to his health. Even with a top class player to challenge & rotate with him, Rodders would still be playing 40+ matches per season, not including internationals.

It’s good to see a bit more talk about Khusanov and Marmoush but centre midfield is the most important position we need this January. The Ederson links have quietened down which is a shame as he would certainly have given us a bit more athleticism and a physical presence in midfield.

I’m well aware of what he said mate. And if he’s paying 40 plus matches then his back up plays less than 20. Which top class replacement will be happy with that?

Not really. Rodri's back up could play 70 minutes in one match & Rodders 20+ minutes & vice versa. Both will obviously complete 90 minutes in other matches & offer cover to each other in terms of injuries & suspensions too.

There's also the scenario that we could play a double pivot in tough away matches. That's how I arrived at both Rodri & another CDM playing 40+ matches per season for City, not including Internationals. It's essentially what Rodri was calling for.
