We didn't just let him go though.

We were not able to get a work permit for him, hence why he was loaned to Girona, failed to get it a 2nd time and then he went to Villa as they were able to guarantee everything for him to be granted a WP. Plus villa were in the championbship at the time
 
As a loan option we can't lose, unless he starts scoring OG's.

If he's not our level he goes back and it'll give our new DOF a few months to find someone to play alongside/fill in behind Rodders (if Rodders is still the same player).

Of if not thatwho is better and available? - and lets extendit further...who would you go for in the summer? cause most people predicted what would happen with Rodri in the last two summers and the club made a mistake in not providing the squad depth in that area buying the ilkes of Kalvin Phillips (was never going to be good enough) and Nunes....(again not good enough in that defensive role) bringing an aged Gundo back (who was nevr a great 6 even in his prime)

I definitely think we need a midfielder in January. Just not convinced if everyone is fit Luiz gets in. Would prefer they sign someone who can play as a 6 or an 8 but can get in our best 11. If it’s Luiz on loan I guess it’s not a risk. But he can’t get in the Juventus team so why is he good enough for ours?
 
Juve at the time got a good deal at 50M euros especially as he was valued at 70M (according to Transfermarket). If we get him for <40M it is a very good deal. He was playing very well for Villa and would be as asset in our squad and certainly by far the best available DM at the club if we get him this month.

This is a pretty low risk signing even if there is an obligation to buy with the loan and his salary is hardly going to be at Grealish levels making him almost impossible to move on if things don't work out (and I think they will because he's a good player)
 
Any number of reasons for a players move not to work out or start, doesnt mean you dismiss a player offhand.

bernardo - works his socks off but aint a 6

Rico as we have seen hugely struggles.....

Akanji as a temporary fix is ok but press him well he struggles at times....

The ONLY player that could possibly do the job better than Luiz in our present squad (other than Rodri obviously) is John Stones - BUT his injury record is horrible and he wont be on the pitch enough

He didnt say as a number 6 did he. He is also better than all 3 at being Brazilian.

As a player though, sorry he is not better than Kevin Gundogan or even Kovacic.
