Last Film You Saw

Started watching that Amy Winehouse film but turned it off after 20 mins. Went from her singing at a family party to a superstar within that time. Her dad’s character was annoying me too.

Boneyard with Mel Gibson.....
Best described as a dull mess.
I do not recommend.

The sound design on Dunkirk was great.
Not seen it for a while tbh. Its a common thing with a lot of his movies, I believe he films it in a certain way and doesn't overdub(might be called something else). So what happens is the background music is much louder than the dialogue and it becomes a pain in the arse.
He even mentioned it himself saying he didn't realise people cared so much for dialogue which was a bit odd.
I also noted in Batman that when there was a chase which would normally get music to heighten the intensity of the scene he wouldn't use that option at all and it would feel oddly flat.

He's made some great movies though.

I'd agree that the sound on The Dark Knight Rises was a mess- all that Bane waffling into his mask, couldn't understand a word he said.

Longlegs on Amazon Prime.
I enjoyed it, but, I can see why it didn’t chime with others.

It’s a Silence of the Lambs/satanic serial killer style film, nothing wholly original on the surface, some interesting choices of camera angles, colour palette & visual identity (& the soundtrack has an underlying discordant tone that made me feel quite uneasy I think that might’ve been the point )
Storyline & ending was telegraphed, while certain interesting elements went under developed.
It’s more style over substance if I’m being perfectly honest, but it has that underlying oddness & is there something going on in the background? vibe that kept me watching.

Both Nicolas Cage & Maika Monroe have done better genre films ( imho)
If you want a less unhinged Cage:
Mandy is a better fit ( but it does have a bloody chainsaw fight, & superb soundtrack)
It Follows, for Monroe is also a creepy Carpenteresque low budget indie horror (great soundtrack too)

1st time watch for 1975s "The Man who would be king" with Sean Connery, Michael Caine and Christopher Plummer directed by the acclaimed John Houston. Rousing and absorbing story of two ex- army chancers at the time of the British Raj. Some of the epic scenes may be considered borderline racist today but the final frames still pack a heavy punch. Good 7/10+

Darkness (2002) - 4/10
Supernatural horror around a family that love from America to Spain and realise there's some weird shit going on in the new house. The suspense doesn't really payoff.

The Bermuda Triangle (1978) - 1/10
A group of people venture into the triangle to do some scuba diving. Horrible movie, terrible script, don't bother.

The Last Starfighter (1984) - 5/10
A young lad sets the high score on a video game and then is recruited to save the world. Starts well but then revolves around some very poorly aged cgi.
