The Labour Government

1 seems sensible. They should take a deep dive into the information they already have on the matter and act accordingly. Amongst other things that saves victims going through the whole evidence process again It may take 6 months but that's better than 7 years. I wonder when the investigation into the 95% of cases perpetrated by white men will be called for and start?

Thing with it is there is nothing to stop both being a good answer. As you say act upon what you have but be aware that as things are learned as it goes along you can pull other lines in to what you are doing. Its just another confected war by opposition Party's who need to make stuff binary rather than a nuanced argument because they cannot adapt from their old mindset

If you say you will definitely not do something, it's bad optics to do it unless absolutely forced.

What examples are there of policies specifically ruled out in the manifesto that have in fact been implemented?
I'm sure you'll be pleased to know I haven't actually read the manifesto. Starmer is Blair mark two. He said he was going to change politics after all the years of self-seeking 'corrupt' tories and improve things for pensioners and 'hard working people' (wish I had a pound for every time I've heard a politcian spout that one). So far he's not done a lot has he? * the latest hoo-hah around Tulip Siddiq is particularly funny btw., how are the 'optics' on that one looking?

maybe a bit of reading would improve your knowledge

they settled long running and debilitating industrial disputes. People can get to work by train now. Doctors aren't striking - the NHS would probably have keeled over this winter

3m people have benefited from an increased minimum wage and 13m pensioners will continue to have the triple lock

fast tracked workers rights legislation with the Employment Rights Bill making rights more secure

NHS funding at its highest since 2010 ( when Tory austerity started)

Housing reforms via planning and Renters Rights Bill going through Parliament right now

Water Special Measures Bill - to prevent failing water companies from paying bonuses to their boards

Devolving Power to the local level - white paper going through

Launched Strategic defence review

Passenger Railway Services Act allowing railways to be brought back into public ownership

The Bus Services Bill deregulating buses - see Andy Burnham

allocated £12bn for the infected blood compensation - something the last Govt talked about but set aside no funding for

£500m allocated to warm home grants

Green Paper on Industrial strategy something the last Govt never had

I could go on but I'd recommend you stop watching GB News and Talk TV and get your nose out of the Daily Mail and learn what nothing looks like

I don't watch GB News and never heard of 'Talk TV' nor do I read the Daily Mail. And your comment on Tulip Siddiq is?

she is being investigated by Parliament as was Johnson and if the outcome for her is the same as it was for Johnson then the same fate should befall her.

Interesting you offered no comment on 12 or 13 things they have done that you described as nothing. Care to comment?

There’s no real talk of politics anymore, it’s all about taking sides, as in football. Seems that once one is entrenched, there’s no peering over the embankment to see what is actually happening.

It’s not helped by the ultra rich media moguls who want only one side told. Like Labour doing the work that was needed to get through the backlog of asylum seekers, deporting, what was it, 13,500 at the last count. All on here seem to keep a good eye on the media but not one of them wanted to report it, instead focussing minds on the next boat arriving.

Whichever party you support, things should be common to us all. Like education, health, etc, but that seems to be in the past as it’s all about what side you support.

I'll answer that one Mr. Octopus

Can I ask, as you are saying that you are on the left, are you supporting Musk or are you just hoping Musk can get Starmer out and get the Tories or Reform in, maybe Lib Dem?

I don't like any of the viable options and Musk can do one as well. The sex pest Cohen and other centrists spent years slating and purging the left and now want them to speak up? Not happening.

Hmm, Brexit is one of the reasons we are in the shitty place we are. Not the only reason, but one, and one that will not go away.

It's scarcely a socialist budget that takes a benefit away from most/many pensioners. It's actually a budget that seeks to 'balance the books' which is what people have been told is desirable over the last 40 years.

As I have mentioned before, there are no simple, easy answers and anyone who says that there are is either deluded or disingenuous. All the choices are shit - apart, possibly, from joining the EU Customs Union, which would be painless and both cut bureaucracy and boost the currency. But for political reasons, Starmer has had to rule that out, as he has had to rule out raising all the fairest taxes.
If it was a " budget that seeks to balance the books" Brian ,we wouldn't have borrowing costs spiking with the pound dropping would we.

So we're all agreed, are we?

The quote in the headline is made up, and the byline isn't true, because it's clear that her teacher pension takes her well over £3 a week above the threshold... "Ms Emm receives the full new state pension, which is £221.20 a week, just £3 above the cut-off for winter fuel allowance. She is also in receipt of a teacher’s pension."

The worst of it is there are a couple of million pensioners either eligible for pension credit who don't claim it or really are just over the PC threshold, and the Telegraph produces a simply dishonest story.

Great stuff - another £200m and 7 years of kids being assaulted to get to where we are now - i.e the vast majority of grooming gangs are white Christian
The enquiry you are referencing was very broadly focused, the enquiry being demanded now is to focus specifically on the Pakistani grooming / rape gangs in approximately 50 towns in the UK. Two years maximum is the timeline being touted and a fraction of the cost.It would be no surprise to anyone in a country that is 82% that white the majority of any criminal activity is very probably perpetrated by people who are white. Data on this subject is completely skewed in any event as the police still only manage to record the ethnicity of offenders in barely more than 30% of cases despite being asked to improve on this - I wonder why that might be? On this limited data some numbers this week demonstrated that Pakistani men were 4 times more likely than white men per population to be committing these offences.Without recourse to any of the available statistics it should be plain and obvious to anyone from the multiple documented cases and ongoing investigations that there has been, and in all probability still is a serious problem with the Pakistani community and the grooming and rape of vulnerable, young and predominantly white girls. There is no reason why Starmer cannot implement the recommendations that the Tories failed to do whilst the new enquiry takes place. The reason he will do his best to stonewall requests for the new enquiry is because most of the areas that would be investigated in the new enquiry are Labour controlled and the fall out from the new enquiry will be disastrous for the Labour Party ( I am not of the view that he himself will have much to be concerned about as DPP)
I believe a new enquiry will be held, maybe he will hold it off ,maybe not . If he does the next government will do it.
When it happens those that wished to pretend this wasn't a problem will be ashamed.

You haven't really forgotten, have you?

Lol.. I had actually. Come on though Vic, £600M over 5 years is like being invited to a Chinese Banquet and coming away with half a vegetable Spring roll

As MP for Rotherham I think it's fair say she probably knows considerably more than most about Pakistani grooming gangs. Also bear in mind an enquiry has also taken place in Rotherham. Sarah Champion is also an unlikely candidate for jumping on a Far Right bandwagon. She was also sacked back in 2017 by Corbyn for having the temerity to say plainly that there was a problem with Pakistani men in her constituency. So it is important today that she did change her mind and listened to her conscience and supported the need for a new enquiry. Well done again Sarah.Screenshot 2025-01-14 at 00.19.27.png

If you mean the far left, the very last thing they ever want was to be in power. In fact, you get the feeling that they would have taken the misery of another Tory Government over a Labour one because a) they loathe Keir Starmer (mainly because he isn't Jeremy Corbyn) and b) so they could say "Told you so." I know it seems mad to the general public but they love nothing more than sitting on the sidelines sniping, carping and hypothesising.
It's dogma over pragmatism every single time with this lot. In fact, they're closer to the far right than the moderates who lean towards or are within the centre ground who, of course, determine the result of every election. They never learn, and that's really why it's not happening.

Are we in the much talked about recession that was predicted during the last government ? the knives are out for Starmer and Reeves especially as she has angered the farmers by IHT

I don’t understand why an enquiry into grooming gangs would be bad for a Labour government. If they are labour controlled councils they are the areas where deprivation is extreme it’s not going to be in leafy conservative districts is it? I understand why Starmer wants to implement the recommendations from the last one but he should do another one even if it’s going to cost us a fortune.
