PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

I saw a tweet from Magic Twat (who I think claimed to be an accountant) responding to a question about our latest signings by saying that we'd write these off in the financial year and take the hit, rather than amortise them over the length of the contract.

Now one of the main charges against us is that we presented accounts that didn't comply with the relevant regulations and accounting standards (presumably to do with allegations around not declaring related parties and categorising what should have been owner investment as revenue). If MagicTwat really was an accountant (clue: he's not, he's a failed journalist) but if he was, then he'd know about IAS 38/FRS 102, which cover accounting for intangible assets.

Player contracts used to be written off in the year of purchase but for many years have been classed as intangible assets and therefore the required accounting treatment is to amortise them over the life of the contract. By writing off in a single year, we would be guilty of not producing accounts that meet accepted accounting standards. So he's definitely not an accountant as he claims. That simply hardens the conviction that he's Nick Harris.

I've not engaged with him so far as I've no wish to and find his deranged bleatings quite amusing but I'm tempted to on this and get blocked.

Whilst tempting PB, no good can come from engaging with someone whose rabidity and instability are the stuff of legend on this forum. Steer well clear is my advice mate

Let one of us minions respond so you remain unblocked. I would do it.

Not sure why you’ve capitalised all those terms.

Those things can only be enforced if they are expressly provided for in the conrtacts, and you haven’t had sight.

I would say as a general proposition a contract can only be void for fraud if the fraud specifically relates to the formation (or subsequent variation) of the contract i.e. City knew they were going to be punished to an extent that was material and dishonestly represented otherwise to the other contacting party, namely the player.

Just because a company is held to have acted fraudulently in a civil (or even criminal) court or tribunal it doesn’t automatically vitiate every contract it is subject to. That would be an utterly preposterous and unworkable state of affairs.
If a relegation caused by a club breaking the rules leads to financial losses for a player, it provides grounds for the player to seek contract termination through FIFA. Therefore, if you refuse to let players leave, there is a significant risk you will lose them for free. That's a can of worms no club wants to open.

What are the specific grounds via FIFA? You can’t just make a bare assertion without particularising the ground which you are citing. ‘Through FIFA’ is meaningless.

Absolutely no point whatsoever in engaging with a **** like that. It a complete waste of emotional energy.

This week, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted that he has told his old players to book a flight to his holiday home in Mallorca if City are found guilty of their Premier League charges and they will hold a parade in his garden to celebrate (even though the charges do not refer to any season where Klopp would get a retrospective Premier League winners' medal himself if any of City's titles were stripped).
