As I keep saying over and over whenever these discussions come up about him: the shoulder injury (and subsequent surgery) he got just as we signed him absolutely fucked him up. He's League One level at best these days.

A shoulder injury killed off Negredo and he was 10x the player at his peak. It makes movement painful and it makes throwing your weight around - crucial for a midfielder - almost impossible. You could see it clear as day when he was here.

A nice lad and a talented player, who would have performed well if he'd stayed fit. But he probably benefited a bit from being in Bielsa system (along with Patrick Bamford and a couple of other players from that 20/21 Leeds team) and then got screwed by that injury.

It happens. He's got a few big medals. More than 99% of players get. We're just going to have to keep loaning him lower and lower down the pyramid until his contract runs down (in four years) and he retires aged 32.
Add to that some likely mental health issues that were either caused or exacerbated by the injuries. I know he makes a lot of money, but it’s a terrible situation for him that will likely only get worse.

He was of seemingly a decent standard, was a regular for England. Makes a move to City and the penny drops. Can't be form if you stink the place out for years at City West Ham and Ipswich.
Can only think he has realised he ain't great and he's maybe unwilling to put the hard work in to play for mediocre teams.
Probably fallen out of love with it all? Who knows.
I agree with the "penny drops " quote. think he turned up at training and thought WTF.

No refunds; no returns.

In that article Mckenna says he is surprised at his lack of running power.

First and foremost as a footballer regardless of skill is being able to run!!

If he can't do that then there is no hope for him.

He's finished at the top level. I can't even remember him having a barely decent game for City. He was a car crash at West Ham and now he's stinking Ipswich out!

He makes Rodwell and Javi Garcia look like ballers.

Anybody else in other jobs would be given warnings and then if their performance didn't improve they would be sacked for gross incompetence. The very least Philips could and should do is get properly fit.

And if that is/were the case, those who have dealt with afflictions such as depression will tell you how hard the most menial of tasks are to complete when at a low ebb, let alone being in the top percent of your domain.

None of the BM scouting experts who contribute to this thread , would ever accept or acknowledge the possibility of such.

What a pile of crap, he had surgery to pin his shoulder , a very common injury/procedure.

Sorry but that's a crock, no it was hardly a great way to start his career but my word if he has let his career be destroyed for such a situation it may tell you a lot about his mentality.

We don’t know if he’ll stay or go but he deserves a thread in here in addition to the transfer thread.
Last night was his best performance in the pre season friendlies and maybe something Pep will consider for the last friendly against Chelsea and even Charity Shield with Ruben, John and Kyle all returning late in the day.
Anyway, I’ve watched the game and Kalvin is definitely better with the game in front of him. Far from perfect but some of his passes were excellent. Well done lad, keep working and who knows what will happen in the future.

He’ll come good in the end.

Noticed he wasn't even in the squad the other evening. Is he injured again? I wish him well, and think he can hold down a place in one of the upper Championship sides, or maybe bottom third PL side, but his career needs to move on, now.
