Has anyone put their central heating on yet?

Bit the bullet and the boiler is going in tomorrow , £108 a month for two years interest free . Have to live on beans on toast and maybe some cheese on it !There is so much damp in the kitchen it has to get heating on it , my man friday is coming round tomorrow to clear the guttering around the kitchen, before the next lot of rain at the weekend

I fished out a fleecey hoodie which has been a game changer , warm the core is the trick, shame i forgot i had it in the cold spell !

I have damp clothes that i will be able to wash and dry finally

The boiler is the easy bit.
It is the bit that costs the most money and the bit where "Boiler throwers" do best.

However,
Controls is what makes or breaks a heating system.
Controls is also what will make or break your wallet.

A boiler install is no good if the rest of the plumbing is dirty, old, knackered etc.

Whomever you are getting to put the boiler in, have a good discussion with them and get them to explain what boiler it is and why it suits and what they will do to ensure it mates with your system as good as possible.

Ideally, if you have a friend who is a plumber/hating engineer, or just a nerd, then get them to look at what is being done.

You are forum savvy. there a lots of DIY forums you might sign up to and show them what you are getting into before letting the ink dry.

But, a few quid on controls will be well worth it and in short time as well.

Is ir right to take off the mouldy wallpaper ? I am thinking yes and let the walls dry out easier, tell me if that is the wrong thing to do

Did you sell your car ?

Did you sell your car ?
No still got the car , i have been too ill to clean it, car wash it and take twenty to thirty pictures of it etc , i know i can sell it in a day if i need to , same with the few shares i have , can sell them over the phone in two mins

I will need to have the kitchen redecorated so will keep those two for then

I have gone through my budgets and if i spend less on out goings by a hundred pounds a month i can do it

I want to say thank you to the seven posters who have offered me money, i gracefully declined but i love you for even thinking about it x

Thank you for your advice

I had to explain what boiler i have now and what pipe work i have and how old it is , they matched me with boiler , to be sure i had to send them pictures of my boiler, the pipework under it , the flu, which they are going to replace and the access to to it

My radiators work fine , just need bleeding one or two and i have controls on each one so i can choose which rooms to heat

I have a pre payment meter for the gas...I'm going through 20 quid every three days.
That is a lot but in your condition you need to keep warm

I never usually heat the kitchen as it goes straight out of the big open fireplace behind the kitchen some twat put in without sealing off that and floor boards behind all the appliances , but now i am going to have to help with the damp, thank the lord i have fixed my gas and electric for a yearat below the variable rate

So many fucking problem to sort out , i hate my life !

I haven't paid for electric for years...THEIR meter was faulty. So they put a new "smart" electric meter in last year...and it STILL didn't charge me. I've just been sent a bill for over 3 grand.

These rules set out when a supplier can charge you for any shortfalls in payment for energy you’ve used.

You cannot be charged for energy used more than 12 months ago if:

  • you have not had an accurate bill for it before, even though you asked for one
  • you have not been informed about any charges due via a statement of account before
  • your Direct Debit amount was previously set too low to cover any charges due
Suppliers must make these rules clear in their contract terms and conditions.
That’s from the ofcom website

Thanks for that, mate. Yep...they've sent nothing until now. They gave me incorrect instructions about prepayments, too.
I'm not worrying too much, to be honest...I'll deal with it when I get to it. It's at the bottom of the list of things i need to worry about ;)

I am fuming today , the boiler doesnt have a qr code to connect the wifi for the thermostat so i cant set the timer

Supposed to be brand new , e-mailed the boiler people i brought it from and the maker of the boiler , she has said some boilers need another accessory to set the timer , depending on the age of the boiler , i have to send her the serial number and she will investigate , hmmm

I am reaching the very end of my tether, seriously losing the will to live , why cant bad things stop happening to me
