Is it true he is suffering from chronic plantar fasciitis? Feel really sorry for him if so, I used to love running and footy and it's why I packed both in, couldn't cope with the pain feeling like I had a lump of glass stabbing me in the arch of my foot constantly.

That is mega painful and can be debilitating.

I get something similar that is caused by an old ankle injury. Randomly flares up about once a year out of the blue and I’m on crutches for two weeks.

Lots of people might shrug off a minor foot injury as nothing but an inconvenience but for a professional athlete it can be career ending if they can’t do much about it.

I feel really sorry for the bloke.

Honestly it's one of those things that a lot of Dr's diagnose and say a bit of rest should cure it but I tried for Years and literally £100s of different insoles, 20+ trips to podiatrists etc and never cured it properly, can only imagine how much of a pain in the arse it must be a pro athlete!

I suspect 300k in the account every week makes up for the pain

Same here with my condition. Doctor and two physios basically just shrugged their shoulders and said do a few exercises, wear insoles and rest when it flares up.

Not an answer at all.

And these were private consultations, one of which was a sports physio who works with super league rugby players, not some NHS student nurse.

If he is suffering from this I doubt very, very much that any amount of money will make up for the pain.
I can tell you categorically that if I could take away the pain and the suffering I am going through at present by money I would give every single penny to be living the life I was living before it struck.
So I am afraid I think your post is wrong. :-)

EDIT: Plus it is a disgusting thing to say or even imply. I now withdraw.

To a point, and if you were to offer me a job off carrying this ailment for 300k/week, i'd take it but eventually, money can only do so much.

I'd say after an extended period of time (years?) you'd pay 300k/week to not have it.

Stones suddenly makes himself available for the squad now we have signed 2 new defenders and his place might not be guaranteed on the rare occasion he deems fit to pull his boots on, what a surprise.
Great bloke, player, etc but this is professional football and we can't manage a team of ghosts.
He needs to move on or retire.

His time as a serious city 1st team player is done.

You can't plan and develop a team with unreliable players no matter how good they are/were

He seems a decent guy and, yes, money compensates for a lot of things, but I bet he’s frustrated to hell with his constant injuries and hates being a passenger most of the time.

From a club viewpoint, though, he’s far too expensive to keep on - but also difficult to sell. Natural squad progression: new young bucks come in, fallen heroes move on.

Injuries are frustrating but not his fault. He's just prone to it and not getting any younger.

He's aways played with a panache that perfectly represents the club and Pep's style, and always comes across as a decent and respectful man. If it is his time to move on then I hope he gets the rapturous reception he deserves and leaves on a high.

I had it for a year 20-21. Just came on suddenly, felt like shards of glass stabbing every time I walked, fortunately ( or not as the case may be) it was lockdown so couldn't go far anyway. I'm an FOC female, not a prime athlete so god knows how I suddenly got it. Never known pain like it, prefer toothache. Then suddenly in spring 21 it gradually disappeared. I do wonder if the enforced covid 'rest' actually helped the recovery. I do feel for John if this is what he has, it just permanently gnaws at you 24/7.

That's more like it! Some are being far too critical and negative about Sir John for my liking. He's been a critical part of our success and can't do much about his injuries - I'm sure he'd love to be starting week in week out.

We can't have so many unreliable players in the squad, but I also think it's over the top to single out people when we've had a squad-wide issue with injuries and form this season.

He's a CB who completed the most dribbles in a CL final since Messi - we won't see many as versatile and wonderful to watch as Johnny Stones. If he goes I'll be gutted, even if I understand why he'd have to.

John Stones has been the perfect embodiment of the cool, slick, modern Pep Guardiola and Manchester City defender.

As I said on the Gundogan thread, for me a player gets a lot more leeway and credit in the bank not just based on their performances, but on the kind of representative they have been for the club and kind of man they are.

I am banned from the Kyle Walker thread, make of that what you will.

That sounds more like gout to me, but I haven't had plantain isis or whatever it's called.

The hierarchy have decisions to make in the summer about several players. Including John. I'm guessing he's one of the big earners at the club, given his seniority in the dressing room. Which will probably be a factor in their considerations. Unfortunately, it seems that he can't be relied upon to play upwards of 25 PL games in a season anymore. He clearly has a serious issue with his foot.
