Capital Punishment.

Well we wrongly hanged Timothy Evans in 1949, when a certain John Christie of 10 Rillington Place fame, was the murderer and unfortunately and it took until 1954 to hang Christie, after he'd killed another 3 people.

Evans received a pardon his body was exhumed and buried in consecrated land, but the young lad still dropped through Mr Pierpoints trapdoor.

I'm not sure even with modern science techniques DNA etc, that a conviction is totally 100% correct, and there's still room for error.

As horrible as it is for an innocent person to be convicted of a crime they didn't commit and serve time for that crime.

At least there's a chance the conviction can be squashed down the line, the person released and compensated monetarilly for the misscarriage. Once through that trap door it is totally a final act.

I'm against Capital Punishment, always have been. Yet I'll admit that there are some cases that challenge that thought (in the heat of the moment....like today).

For those who are generally in favour can I ask one question?; which crimes and against who would you argue for it to be brought back for?
Killing a child

What about for those who plead guilty to murder?

As much as I'd love to torture some of these maggots (and I'd also love to torture animal abusers, granny bashers, nonces and the like) it's not the way forward IMHO

I don't know.
If someone killed one of my kids.
I would torture them worse than any person has ever been tortured.

That **** should hang today for what he did. These crimes especially crimes against children are absolutely horrific and he shouldn't be allowed another day breathing.

In cases like these where there is zero doubt they should bring it back.
Absolutely.
When there is no doubt he is guilty.
He should hang straight away .
Can you imagine what those girls parents are going through.
I'd rather die than suffer that

In such extreme cases as this, it might be better to try to fully diagnose how this person became such a monster and use what is learned to try to guard against there being more like him in future.
Capital punishment just satisfies a probably understandable desire for revenge.

If capital punishment was on the statutes no one would plead guilty simple as. The guy whose killed these young girls in Southport wouldn't have pleaded guilty he'd have pleaded insanity.

I assume no one would want to volunter to be the next Timothy Evans if they ever brought it back thats for sure.

Benjamin Franklin said words to the effect of, it would be better that 100 guilty men go free than 1 innocent man had to suffer.

As a side note Pierpoint only resigned as hangman not because he had any guilty concience, but every execution was commuted at the 11th hour.

However he's had to travel to the exection site at his own expense and then he wasn't needed.

It's a very emotive subject thats for sure.

Nope, not really.
I was showing how drawn out and expensive it is to have a society that welcomes Capital Punishment, once an appeals process kicks in.
I'm about as far from a Pro Capital Punishment person as you could get to be honest.
Was simply showing that the "costs saved" for anyone wanting it are not as cheap as they think.
Ermm yes you have

it costs £55,000 per prison per year.
Times that by 52 and add in 2% inflation and you get to £5 million quid in total. You said it costs a maximum of 3m dollars which comes out at £2.5m quid which would save the tax payer £2.5million. So a good option to save a lot of cash no?

Not really, considering how many lifers actually spend 52 years in prison.
And regardless....capital punishment doesn't come cheap.
And are you in favour of it?

What about in a situation like this.
Or when Lee rigby was killed.
When there is no argument who did it.
Fuck trails.
And going to court .
Kill the twat straight away.

You are angry about something beyond your control, of course I feel deeply for the loss of the girls and for their families, it is horrific.

I take it you are a good Christian boy and not a religious fanatic

Matthew 5:38-48 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: but I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.

Do you understand the context of that Biblical text?

So what.
Do you have kids

My lack of children is nothing to do with my moral convictions.

Killing is wrong, murder is wrong, state sanctioned execution is wrong.
