I am sure many will agree. It doesn't matter how it's dressed up that midfield 3 other than Rodri is nowhere near good enough

Season is over if that’s the case.rumours popped up yesterday of Akanji or Stones as midfielder. well Stones probably aint gonna be fit after the Brugge game for a month given his track record of injuries, so its Akanji basically.
Looks like he had some kind of minor injury around November/December, and then made a few appearances off the bench. Back in the starting 11 yesterday, Porto fans on twitter seemed to be very happy to have him back in the starting lineupVarela might be a shout as hes been dropped, doubtful the other two move though (dammit Nico!)
Lets all pack up and go home then.Season is over if that’s the case.
not seen enough of him to make the call, would love Nico G. Club should have scouted Rios when they talked to Palmerias as well (not sure he's technically the level though, but might be his height making him look a bit bambi legs).Looks like he had some kind of minor injury around November/December, and then made a few appearances off the bench. Some of the responses from some of the posters are patheticLets all pack up and go home then.
I sincerely hope so mate, nothing against Txiki but I reckon fresh set of far more youthful eyes is what was needed, I expect Viana is looking at younger players with plenty of energy.Heard these names are all Viana's btw. He's the one who identified all the signings so far. They're not Txiki.

Essugo would be my pick. There’s a reason why Real Madrid and Barca are interested. Owned by Sporting so Viana knows him well, €45m release clause supposedly. Would bring some much needed fresh legs, pace, physicality and ability to win back the ball to the midfield. This is a very good thread on him:
He’s a massive fan of the midfielder at Dinamo Zagreb I saw online. Baturina could see us go for him in the summer, mix between Modric and Kovacic.
Pretty sure he will be gone before window closes. Are we expecting McAtee to go due to Marmoush/Bobb and his lack of minutes?
Would you like to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world with almost guaranteed trophies and lots more money? No thanks, I’d rather stay where I am.I'll take whichever can also play as an 8.
Decent players aren't going to want to come to only play when rodri needs a rest. Need someone who can play alongside him and also cover for him when required
Two words. Kalvin Phillips.Would you like to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world with almost guaranteed trophies and lots more money? No thanks, I’d rather stay where I am.
City, because they are involved in many competitions and usually progress, play many more games than run of the mill teams so any decent signing would (a) fancy his chances of a regular spot and (b) realise that he would play many matches anyway.
Nico for me, plays 6/8 or 10. La Masia product, 6' 3.. big fanBlimey, would take any three of this lot as they're exactly what we're currently lacking in midfield.
Who would you take if given the choice?
Gonzalez or Varela would probably be the safer option due to their experience & they also seem quite skilful when in position. However, Essugo looks like a real intriguing if not raw prospect. Probably not for us at this moment in time but could be a real Brighton-type acquisition, especially someone to learn from Rodri. His power, pace & interceptions really stand out & currently playing at a higher standard in La Liga as opposed to the Portuguese league.
