If Rangers held on and didn’t allow another fucking late goal, Ragville would have ended up in the play offs, instead they are 4th and could win the damn thing.

Yes, it’s a Mickey Mouse cup by their standards, but we will hear no end to it if they win it.

Any joke trophy seems to become a major one when they win it.

Swap it for flats being owned by property investors with the majority empty.

The area around the Etihad was derelict factories in the 80s and 90s so it needed something there to spark regeneration of the area. Whats around Old Trafford that is falling apart and needs money spending on it by the council apart from their Cow shed of a ground? They don’t need to earmark any land not owned by the rags for their benefit, the land round there can be used by private investors to build homes. There’s lots of work going on at Warwick road where the old Kelloggs hq used to be, investors want to invest in Greater Manchester because they get a return. They ain’t interested in investing to piggy back on the rags name.

Does the winner still get a spot in the champions league ?

When the swamp was first built it was located by the biggest industrial estate in Europe. It’s bullshit & sky is paid promotion.

Yep and history tells you they ALWAYS get a helping hand when they need it! Did we get any help of the government to decontaminate the ground before we built the campus? And it was not cheap!
And no helping hand, when all that toxic waste was found under the Kippax, when it was pulled down to build the all-seater stand.

Oi!

Stop being disrespectful to cowsheds!

Darren Lewis just now talking on SSN about the Government backing to the rags for the regeneration of surrounding areas of the new/regenerated old toilet... And to be fair to him, he made the point that our owners have regenerated the area by putting their own money in whereas the billionaire owners of the rags are getting the government/tax payer to pay for it.
I know this might not go down well with the majority of you being Manchester based, but here’s my perspective from someone who lives nowhere near Manchester, but still in the North.

When the Commonwealth stadium was built, and you guys took ownership of it, Manchester was in a different place to what it is 22 years later to now. Manchester needed regeneration, and no private company saw money in it to go it alone, so the government had to kick start it.
Right now though Manchester is the Northern London, and although it may not officially be the case, it is both Englands and the UK’s 2nd city now.
Companies are lining up to invest in Manchester, you have skyscrapers etc all being built with private funds, companies moved skilled jobs to the city.
With your stadium, and the new Coop venue, alongside the existing arena, you have massive concerts etc being hosted in Manchester. You’re airport is massively successful and sucks up passengers from not only the North West, but the Midlands, and all the way up into Scotland.
Without being provocative, from the opinion of everyone else in the North, the money for the North by the government for the last 20 years or so has went to Manchester with ministers saying ‘Look we invested in the North’.

For all intends purposes, Manchester doesn’t need government intervention to build a few hotels, some apartment complexes, and a couple of office buildings that will make it attractive for Man Utd to build a new 100k seater fuck off stadium.
The richest clubs figures came out a few days ago and Manchester United are still one of the richest clubs not only in the country, but the world. The land they want to build on is owned by millionaires and billionaires, they have the money to kick start it if they want to. I’m going to say this last bit bluntly as well. If none of it never got built, Manchester as a city isn’t missing out. Tourists will still come to your city to watch both Man Utd and you. Large scale events will still be held in Manchester, jobs will still be created, private companies will still be lining up for available land such as around Old Trafford to build their new offices and apartment complexes.

We (Newcastle United) are about to announce what we are doing with our stadium in the next few months. Will the government be providing funding so we can build a fan park, hotels, and apartments on club land adjacent to SJP?
I doubt it.
Meanwhile half a mile away from SJP an overpass in Gateshead has been forced to close before Christmas. We don’t have the money to demolish it, the government won’t give us emergency funding, and the council has tried and failed on 2 separate occasions in recent years to gain funding from central government. This is a key route from Gateshead into Newcastle, which leads over the Tyne bridge, which is awaiting it’s final amount of money it requires to complete it’s refurbishment, 5 years after it should have been given.
Another bridge across the Tyne is going the same way as the overpass in Gateshead, and that needs funding to deal with that.
The historic High level railway bridge is going to have to be rebuilt in the next few years, there is no funding for that.
Our Metro system still needs its final allocation of funding approved so it can complete its renewal process to keep our Metro system running, 15-20 years after it should have been given. This is just in the Tyneside area, every area outside Greater Manchester, and London will have similar lists of stories.
It would be a complete shambles if Manchester gets government funding so Taylor Swift can perform a concert at Old Trafford instead of the Etihad.

Key thing here will be progress on the other 5 "growth locations", Old Trafford just one of 6 areas earmarked for a share of the 10 billion. Danger is the work around the swamp prioritised during this government ahead of the others and suddenly the rest of the cash is no longer available leaving Oldham, Wigan, Bolton and others with massive building sites to enjoy.

If signed off and if OT is first to break ground then we know what's coming.

I don't mind the idea really. If it is genuinely good for the North then fine, but as Blues have said so much recently the infrastructure MUST be improved fully. Not just a few additional trams here or there but increased train travel, roads to extensive and reliable park and ride services and an improved Manchester Airport.
I would surely hope that the stadium is a Wembley of the North and that cup semi's, finals England matches (mens and womens), rugby finals etc can be played there. I would also like to think that athletics can somehow be accomodated, but thats a major step change in terracing, seating and track mechanics which may not suit Uniteds intentions.
Bring it on I say - the last two major new staduims (exc Everton, too early to judge) havn't had any real positive effect on team performance. West Ham and Spurs have plodded on inconsistently with the grounds being a bit of a millstone financially.
Everton's new ground is beautiful by the way. However Liverpool City Council have done very little to assist. There is no improvement in surrounding infrastructure and the surrounding dock buildings remain virtually derelict. On a large scale project like this, local or national government have to get involved.
Whatever, it'll be fun watching Scruffy Jim hike the prices, trim the staff and fail to get in decent players to match his golden ambitions. He doesn't have the skillset around him currently. The John Delarean of the football industry so far.
Athletics?

Interesting perspective. View of the rest of the North.

Said before and I will again. No Trafford redevelopment should be funded before every school in the region has all temporary portakabins replaced with Buildings that are not full of RAAC. That's a simple vote winner for the politicians and a proper investment in the future of the region. Extend nationwide if you wish.

They can pay for it themselves, should be simple to finance if they have a plan (stop laughing)

They play in the Thursday night thing so were always going to play on the Sunday. Nice of TNT to schedule it for late on the Sunday though as at least it's not too far to travel for most of their fans to get back home.
I know they played Thursday. It was the reschedule random later kick off time that the PL would never have allowed for any other team, especially not us that annoyed me.
