A team-mate of the goalkeeper is penalised for encroachment only if:
1. The encroachment clearly impacted on the kicker
2. OR THE ENCROACHING PLAYER PLAYS THE BALL
3. OR challenges an opponent for the ball and this prevents the opponents from scoring, attempting to score or creating a goal-scoring opportunity.

The part of the law you're talking about is irrelevant because he played the ball. You are relating the bit about preventing an opponent from scoring to the second bit but it has nothing to do with it.

It does seem possible that having a couple of beers has somehow made me read the OR after your point number 3 as AND, which has rendered my post as somewhat lacking in veracity.
I think I will, therefore, have to a glass of red to try to an assuage my embarrassment.

Not an excuse for just how shit they are but in Ange's defence, they've had no defence. They've been hit with injuries more than anybody, certainly worse than we have. Why hasn't Levy got them an actual centre half this window?

All true. I suppose glass half full, they might still win 2 or 3 cups this season, though I won’t be shedding many tears if they end up winning diddly squat.
