Women's Football Thread 2024/2025

Think it's really hard to say. I don't really pay too much attention to what the women's team are saying around injuries these days as they've clearly adopted a policy of keeping serious injuries under wraps (not really sure what purpose that policy serves as players talk and there's no way other players and other clubs don't know the true extent of other rival teams' injuries).

I think there are a lot of red flags as to Miedema's ability to stay fit but given she came on a free I've always felt it was a chance worth taking. My main point in this thread was that i still think it's right to sign a player of Kerolin's quality when they become available. There's always injuries around the first team and the reason Chelsea have stayed ahead of the pack is that they have massive squad depth
Fair enough mate. You’re right about us being unusually quiet about injuries. If Viv is still in this position this time next year I’ll happily agree with you! For now though I think it’s too early to say.

I don’t actually know much about Kerolin but I’ve heard a few journalists saying it’d be quite the coup. I know she’s scored a few goals in the NWSL but I don’t think I seen much that stood out before that. Do you think it’d be a good signing and what kind of player is she? We do have a tiny squad for a CL team when you compare to Chelsea’s.. it’d be nice to have a few more players in some positions but Gareth doesn’t rotate often, though he has been a bit better at that this season but probably not by choice with the amount of games we’ve had and injuries.

I would like to keep Kelly instead of replacing her but at this rate it’s probably best for all involved to move on

I have a feeling that if/when she leaves, if she goes to a decent club, and starts getting minutes again she will do very well.

Especially if that club has a manager who is actually capable of getting the best out of players.
I admit, I am fond of her. She seems like a decent young woman. I know she grew up in London. I'd be happy for her to go to Chelsea or Arsenal if she wants to go back home and close to family.

Her new husband works for the red dippers. I absolutely would not want her playing for them.

I must have seen Kerolin play for Brazil at some time or other but I know v little about her as I don't follow NWSL. Like you say, it's being reported as a bit of a coup though and apparently she was voted NWSL MVP the year before last (she was injured all last season with ACL). To be named player In the NWSL is quite the accolade.

Re Kelly, as a person and a figure in the dressing room I think she's totally brilliant. A good player too, but for me, not world class. She's good enough to start week in week out somewhere, but not for us, Chelsea or Arsenal so for that reason it's probably the right time for her to leave and get back to her best. Whilst I don't think she's good enough to start for us, I do think she definitely deserves mirem invites than Taylor has given her. Unless she's behaved terribly behind the scenes (which I can't imagine she has) than I think it's unfair of him to have frozen her out like he has

I could be mistaken, however, I do believe Chloe would be as good or better than Fujino has been for us this year.

I actually don't disagree with you but Fujino is a 20 year old raw prospect who is still settling into the the side. There's a lot of room for improvement whereas as I think we know where Kelly's ceiling is. I understand the decision to persevere with her. Think Fujino plays with lots more discipline compared to Kelly too (tbh it's a bit frustrating at times in a Jack Grealish kind of way, but she's clearly following managers instructions)

The problem for Kelly is that Fowler is now ahead of her in the pecking order on that right side and has played pretty well there (she was outstanding against Barca there) plus you have Park who has played most of her career so far in that position. So it isn't only Fujino keeping her out

I seen that she’s got the MVP accolade. That’s interesting to know. Shes a winger and not a striker, correct?

Agree about Kelly. She looks great with her teammates and doesn’t on the face of things appear to have kicked up a fuss or downed tools but the opportunities aren’t there. She has been great for us over the years but it’s probably a good time for both to move on and for us to get a world class player on the right hand side. I can understand the persistence with Fujino over Kelly because Aoba clearly needs a bit of bedding in time and if Chloe has made is clear she’s not renewing it makes sense to give her the time on the pitch now rather than throw her in to the deep end next season with Chloe gone and expect her to hit the ground running.

I like Fowler but not keen on her playing on the right wing because she’s left footed and always has to cut back for a cross and often the opportunity has passed. Unlike Lauren who will run to the line and whip in a cross. Not entirely sure where Fowler gets her chance in the team if not on the wing though.

Yeah it's hard to know how we get the best out of Fowler. She's used a bit of a utility player in all of the attacking positions and it probably holds her back a bit. That said, I do think she has applied herself really well and done well on the right when called upon.

I don't think she really works as a like for like replacement for Shaw either and looks a bit isolated at number 9. I think she would be best played alongside another striker really.

Chelsea pen Arsenal nil. And to cap the Arse sending off yesterday one of the women couldn't resist joining in today. Looks like two yellow cards both on 83 mins. And then I found out who had the whistle! None other than that sour face who sent off Alex Greenwood for timewasting. Yep, the same ref whose common sense wouldn't fill a thimble. And Chelsea recipients again! Mmmm!

Agree but having said that it was McCabe who was sent off so in my eyes she deserved it. Chelsea won't be caught, they are the best team in the league but they did show some vulnerability today. Our loss against Leigh valley, and Everton still grates.
