Last Film You Saw

My final catch up on the plane home was "Empire of Light".

I think what started out as a really excellent premise gets lost in an unnecessary embellishment of the story. I know the year is 1981, but it didn't need to be. That time period was for the unnecessary embellishment, although the music of that time was great on a personal level. Olivia Coleman is absolutely engaging in the lead role and the audience feels for her existence in the film. Not sure anyone could done this role to same degree.

I think I like Sam Mendes, but I have a feeling he overstepped his mark on this one and lost the narrative on the protagonist, making a complicated story even more unmanageable with an unsatisfactory ending. A little time, patience and restructuring wouldn't have gone amiss here.

Shame, really.

He’s in loads of stuff - best of all as the hard case drill instructor Zim in Paul Verhoeven’s satire Starship Troopers.
He's also the voice of Mr. Krabs in SpongeBob Squarepants...;)

Watching Ronin for the umpteenth time. One thing that struck me is how did they ever get permission to film those car chases through Paris and Nice??
Re-watch the Ronin car chase sequences again, and look out for Robert De Niro's face whilst "driving", he's dropping absolute comedy reactions as he's scared witless.

Watched Blink Twice on amazon prime. Didn't know Zoe Kravitz and written and directed until after I watched it. It won't be for everyone and it hammers its message home very hard but there was lot to enjoy and it was very knowingly a movie so worth a rewatch to see the foreshadowing and references you missed

Richard Jewell (2019) - 8/10
Story about the hero of the centennial bombing at the 96 Olympics who was then vilified by media and became the no1 suspect by the FBI. Paul Hauser does a good job as Jewell. Directed by Clint Eastwood who does well with fairly unspectacular settings.

My Fellow Americans (1996) - 7/10
Jack Lemmon and James Garner play 2 former presidents who hate each other but are put in a scenario where they are forced to get along. It's a good comedy.

A well made and well acted horror, on abuse of power, which takes a more traditional twist once the truth is revealed
the rape/revenge slasher genre
, The ending will cause debate I am sure.

Well worth a watch and understandable they have added a trigger warning, though I would say I have seen more disturbing films of this type.
