Andrea Cambiaso

Funny I don’t remember you mention it. I think we were knackered in the second leg for 2 key reasons (1) we were running for the title, they had pissed their league, they were also given time off by la liga, which we weren’t (2) we worked an awful lot harder than they did, they relied on a mixture of defending, dark arts and good luck. However it’s always good to know that half the posters on bluemoon know much more about managing a football team than Pep Guardiola, especially when utilising hindsight
We had been without key players, largely due to injuries incurred on international duty, and with players playing through pain and the small squad we just lacked the depth needed to get by them. We ran out of steam last year, same against that lot, which was probably one of the reasons we were so keen to get Antonio Pintus. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree, but agreeably I hope.

People wondering on progress with this…

Best thing to do is just quickly scroll down on each page.
If you see tweets, happy days. It means news.
If you see pages of posts just like this of mine with no tweet (X) links, come back later.

It will just be people waffling on about nothing until we have another tweet posted we can then decipher :-)

Tomorrow - there's always tomorrow....

If you really don’t think the fact that we were battling Arsenal for the league with games every 3 days whilst Madrid (who weren’t being seriously challenged for the title) were given a break by Tebas didn’t make a huge difference then wow

I'm not saying that. However, we know we'll always be pushed for a title and we know that other leagues will act favourably to benefit their clubs in European competitions, so those are factors we need to consider when assembling a squad to compete across those fronts.

The reality is we didn’t know before the January 2024 transfer window that la liga were going to give Madrid a holiday, and Pep is clear that he wants to work with a small squad and the success he gets is to a large extent down to this. The number of people who cherry pick either the odd time something goes wrong, or using hindsight that the rest of us mortals don’t have, is shit. A prime example is the CL final v Chelsea that 5 years later people are still carping on about, had we won nothing would have been said. Of course Pep isn’t perfect but I wouldn’t class myself as capable of outperforming him. Anyway allow me to cherry pick -

I’ll skip the charity shields, only a major trophy if the rags win it.

On top of that beautiful entertaining football and what a decent bloke he is too.

And yet people still cherry pick away at things they deem failures, like Chelsea in the CL. It’s the genius of the man that we won so much, and frankly all people can say with hindsight is he fucked up in Porto, we got loads of injuries - who is to say that if he’d had a bigger squad team morale wouldn’t have suffered and we’d have won a lot less?

I judge the man based on what he’s achieved, not what he could have achieved. He has done it his way and it’s been unbelievable; obviously not perfect as some people seem to expect.

PS the only people who don’t make mistakes are the ones who do fuck all, or the ones who judge based on the perfect knowledge of hindsight

Not sure why you’re resurrecting these points and nobody is ‘judging’ Guardiola.
All I did was point out that there were evident signs of tiredness last season and a need for more fresh legs. Apologies if that has offended you.

Sorry why do you think I am offended? You post something, I post something in response, what has that got to do with being offended? What a generic put down

My only gripe is that we seem to have fallen foul of Pep working with a small squad, but who could have foreseen the constant injuries we`ve encountered this season. Maybe a different approach next season from the Boss.
All your points I totally agree with with BBS.

But clearly, Pep was wrong, without a cover for Rodri still missing and Phillips not good enough, 100% there was a gap in the Midfield that should have been redressed and also both wing-backs needed fixing,
Agreed 100%. Personally, watching the Rodri health & wellbeing warnings go unheeded, was like witnessing a car collision in slow motion.

Myself & many others could see what was coming & yelled warnings to the car occupants from the pavement which were ignored. When the collision eventually happened, the following carnage came as no surprise to most onlookers. Our worst Rodri fears were realised & now we're paying the price.

Another thing that I found getting to me is the continued managerial uncertainty with Pep preferring two year extensions. I want no other manager than Guardiola, but myself & many others' patience was wearing thin with having to go through another annual round of "Will he? Won't he?".

My hope is with his divorce announced, Pep will commit his long-term future to City based on wanting to oversee our transitional rebuild. As 24 year old Phil Foden said recently, he was physically & mentally burnt out after 4 hectic seasons. Having one less thing to worry about in terms of Pep's future, will massively help the squad going forward imo.

He’s divorcing his partner of 36 years I don’t think he’ll have put that behind him yet…
Possibly, probably, likely, we don't know.

I was talking about his contract, change of director at the club, walker and professional things, and staying out of personal. But I can see how it could have read as well.

I hope we are bidding for him at half time, but since we are likely going to be out of the CL, we won't be bringing anyone else is.

Khusanov and Reis are great, but for the future. We need mr. right now.
