PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

The only sources I trust are Bluemoon and the club.

Every commercial outlet from SSN to MEN has the objective of making money for its shareholders. Add to that the role of most sports print journalists, which is the more clicks they gain the more they are paid, and you end up with this unhealthy state of affairs where every single commercial media outlet without exception has a vested interest in bigging up the redshirts and trash talking City. It is simply no surprise that the foreign media reports on City are frequently far less antagonistic.

The BBC ought of course to be exempt from this, but for their own reasons, which are not actually that much different from the rest of the media, they have decided that their statutory obligation of impartiality stops at the door of the sports department

TLDR - they’re a bunch of cunts
There was an interview with (I think) the then Head of Sport at the BBC that might have been posted on here. They openly admitted they were chasing numbers.

They're no different to a clickbait site like Football365, or the ones that start with headlines like "This invention has taken the UK by storm".

There's been multiple examples recently of dying local papers all across the country going with exactly the same headlines - almost like they just use a central agency or something instead of employing actual journalists.
This is precisely how most local newspaper groups operate these days. It is centralised content scraped from the Internet or supplied by readers and sent out to various websites. Most of them have no offices and no staff.

Back in the day, around the turn of the millennium, I spent over two years working for a law firm that acted for Arsenal. I was probably working for an average of a couple of days a week on their matters. Obviously, that entailed contact with David Dein on occasions.

He's without doubt a consummately skilled operator and if he speaks about a football topic, his words will definitely be worth listening to. And, guess what, he's had his say on the '115'. Surely, then, his comments will be given public prominence? Actually, no. Outlets providing commentary, be they from the venal mainstream or among the growing coterie of vacuous bloggers, ignore him and instead trumpet the facile musings of chancers who follow the tired old party line.

Step forward, among others, serial failure Keith fucking Wyness as well as those two overpromoted cockwomble simpletons from Sheffield Hallam, Wilson and Plumley. "Organised and clear", as an eminent and astute gentleman once sagely observed.
Just after the Der Spiegel stuff was published I met up with David Conn and we obviously talked about it. He basically laughed them off and said "There's certainly no smoking gun in that lot".

As he was someone who was quite happy to criticise City over pretty well anything, that reassured me that it was just a bit of theatre rather than evidence of genuine wrongdoing.

Sadly he later toed the Guardian line following the CAS outcome but it proved that people who generally know their stuff understand what this really is.

For what it's worth (probably very little) we had David Dein do a talk at my work today. During the q&a I asked what his feelings on the charges and likely outcomes were..he said he doesn't think we've committed any major wrongdoings and was very complimentary about how our club is run.
I remember when Piers Morgan had him on his Talk TV show discussing the case. Morgan must’ve thought Dein was going to join in the pile-on against us, him being a fellow Arsenal man and all that. Unfortunately for Piers, Dein did the exact opposite - articulating his points excellently - and you could tell Morgan was absolutely gutted about it!

I don’t think Dein has any inside info as such. He’s just looking at it rationally and doesn’t believe a club as well run as ours would do something so stupid and amateurish.

Reach is not a 'local' paper.

It's a national publication utilising freelancers and syndicators to write generic pieces for manipulation to suit 'local' circulation.

It's the bastard son of a homeless, flea ridden mongrel with distemper !!
It's not even a paper, it's practically a news aggregator which will use algorithms to promote certain headlines to the top of it's "content".

This is from their own website which I personally find friggin' hilarious:-

Our purpose

To enlighten, empower and entertain through brilliant journalism
Every day, our brands deliver the latest news, entertainment and sport to communities throughout the UK and Ireland and around the world.

Each of our trusted titles is a platform to represent and campaign for the voices of the communities we serve and to hold power to account.

We’re proudly mainstream and believe in giving our audiences something to smile about as part of a well-curated mix of light and shade.

There is a list of their current "publications" on Wiki, which is quite scary:-

"Papers on the same line usually have generalised content and/or have the same team of reporters and editor."

This allows them to run the same story with small changes depending on the region the content is aimed at.

For instance, the Liverpool Echo can run a story with the headline "Why Man City's 115 charges is good news for Liverpool F.C." but can also run the story in the Blairgowrie Advertiser with the headline "Why Man City's 115 charges is good news for Blairgowrie F.C." with simple automated changes.

That's the level modern "journalism" is now at. Your phone/tablet/computer will then use algorithms to continuously throw these headlines at you, especially if you make the mistake of clicking on one of them.

They don't like the alternative narrative, like has been said, it doesn't generate clicks and views for them. Dein is never rolled out as an expert on the 115.

Thanks for that memory.

"So forget fairness, until we ( the UK) become mainly City fans, we shall publish mainly views of news that appeal to the current majority of non City supporters and survive. We shall employ only journos who want to keep their jobs by being biased against City and justify it by a financial need to keep in business."

Is this an admission of illegality?

Why would you roll out an ex club co-owner and vice chairman when you’ve got that well know football finance expert, Jamie Carragher available??

AYE! That must explain Blairgowrie's supporters chant of "YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE ETC.......

There is a conflict for them being a publicly funded organisation, clicks really should not come into it, they should be neutral commentators, I object to my licence fee being used to fund what is rapidly becoming a Fanzine for Liverpool and United, we are not the only fanbase that is pissed off about it

We do along with other fans have some power over this, remember Alan Green he was so biased toward Liverpool a club he openly supported that listening to him commentating on any Liverpool game was like listening to that Spoof one they used to do, United fans and lots of others got really pissed off with it and contacted the Beeb in their thousands (I was one) Green was gradually pulled away for live comenterry and now is very rarely heard or seen

There is no journalism in any sense of the word. The content is scraped from multiple sources and the process is managed by digital producers who are cut and paste merchants. There is no serious scrutiny or control. Fake news is an accurate description for this sort of content.

I have heard David Dein before say he didnt think there was anything of substance in the charges so remains consistent. Unlike many of our detractors in the media, David Dein knows his onions when it comes to running football and has got the tee shirt. He is a proper football man.

that is why it is so clear and organised, there quite simply hasnt been any alternative narrative, there isnt even the hint of an idea that we are on the up and up and this is just an attempt to cause reputational damage by the pl which is led by a man who was fourth choice for the job, the only alternative narrative is that we will have 'got away with it' .

It was Dein who pulled the rug out from under Piers Moron's feet when he hosted that 'cor blimey' YouTube hatchet job on us a couple of years ago. In amongst the usual selection of dribbling doughnuts, Moron had invited Dein along to lend an illusion of gravitas to proceedings, only for Dein to go off-piste by informing all present that our Etisalaat deal - the one when SM temporarily took over payment of the company's sponsorship contributions himself - was 'not the smoking gun' that Moron et al thought it was.
Roll the credits.......
