PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

To me, Delaney is just bemoaning that the likes of City are now competing for honours. We would not be getting articles like this from him (and nor did we) if United, Liverpool, and Arsenal were constantly in the latter stages.

There was a time just before and after the takeover when English clubs were dominating the latter stages of the champions league, when but for Pep’s Barca team the PL would have had something of a monopoly. Liverpool, Arsenal Chelsea and United all reached the final in a fairly short period. It wasn’t unusual for English clubs to make up two or even three of the semi finalists.

i didn’t read that much about the CL in those days, but what I do remember is that there was a huge amount of tubthumping in the media that after years in the wilderness English football was once more dominating Europe.

How those times have changed.

We do realise how much money you make which allows you to spend a lot on players. Its more aimed as the PL than City. The point being that the rules in place are a joke. Im sure a lot if you have said it yourselves. The P&S rules as they stand are just to keep the status quo.

Its not a level playing field when these rules come into effect when already rich/successful/worldwide clubs are earning quadruple the amounts of others. Take Utd for instance and their £900m kit deal. There are only them, you, Arsenal, RS and Chelsea who could come close to deals like that. The rest would get a fraction

So yes you spent within your means rightly so and im sure every one of our fans would state how brilliantly you are run. But most other clubs dont have the same means and wont do for a long time. The ones that do have the means are not allowed.
Just think , if the sheik had chosen you and not us, which was a real possibility , then this would be a very different convo with us looking up and you looking down.

Of course, your owners voted for this carve up. So ya know…
You have a brand spanking new stadium, a fantastic local support base in a world renowned City, you would be a very attractive investment for some rich dirty arab oil money to make your dreams come true, but due to your club voting for FFP, thats not a possibility anymore. Ah well.

I have no sympathy for Everton. They were the original instigators, along with the red shirts and laughingly spurs who first voted against the away team getting a split of your gate money (you wanted it all for your selves) and instigated the formation of the premier league, widening the gap further.
Funny how life turns out/

as has been said, we arent the enemy, any other team apart from liverpool, united, arsenal and , laughingly, spurs , should be willing us to win the case and then fight ffp. Then … maybe you can experience what we have the last 15 years. Its fuckin brilliant

From what I've read they both come at it from different angles.

Samuels appears to be old school, not fussed about the format but that the Champions League should just be for champions, and by including teams who finished in the top4 of the biggest leagues it caused further disparity between the richer clubs of the biggest nations.

To me, Delaney is just bemoaning that the likes of City are now competing for honours. We would not be getting articles like this from him (and nor did we) if United, Liverpool, and Arsenal were constantly in the latter stages.

His argument is that there are only certain teams able to win it now, when that was always the case (other than a brief period when English clubs were banned and it saw Steaua, Porto, PSV and Red Star win their first European Cups).

Since the anomaly that was Porto v Monaco there have been 19 CL Finals. 7 clubs ( Real, Barcelona, Bayern, Milan, Inter, Liverpool, and United) share 16 of those titles. Those clubs have been runners-up on 9 occasions.

Since Nottm. Forest beat Malmo in 1979 there has only been one final where both European Cup/Champions League finalists were making their first appearance at that stage guaranteeing a new winner of the competition. That was in 1991 when Red Star beat Marseille.

Deloony is bitching because the cartel clubs despite all their new rules and controls are falling behind. Boo bloody hoo the childish little prick. Deloony is a classic spoilt brat who is clearly in the pay of the red top clubs.

So there are a few caveats to all this 'if we had your money/income'.

Multi national companies and others want to be associated with success, but there can only be one winner of a competition at a time so (as they say) success breeds success and the money will follow (along with prize money).

Then there is the question of owners. Take out dividends or re invest? The stature of businessman dictates how the business is run (academies/local engagement/ whole business ethos/innovative.)

The quality of manager. Imagine if De Zerbie had our business set up behind him (we may find out) or Villa now.

Quality of recruitment. Whether it be the manager or DOF, mistakes are made, injuries happen and players loose form (or get arrested!)

This ideal world where we are all equal is a joke. It's always been so. It's not realistic to want or imagine that teams all equally get 300 million a year to spend on their team or anything else. Some will spend it badly and others will need to build an academy etc.

One thing is for sure and historic - if you don't have a go on the pitch - it will never happen. We can be beaten or got at, but you have to try. Too many don't.

There was an intesting article on the BBC today, about Torvill and Dean ( the skaters). They tried and for a short time changed the perception of ice dance (not a big fan) by interpreting the style of that sport and the public/world loved it and were successful. What did the ruling body do ? Yep changed the rules and it's pretty much died a death. See it's not just football.

EC / UCL seasons, what have we had 14 attempts is it including the 68 side?

Consider we have now made the knock out phase at least since 13/14 and all of our UCL qualifications are a continuous run since 11/12, that's unmatched by any other EPL side the same period and you have the problem they must stop but can't do it on the pitch.

I do not feel entitled, do not take success on the pitch as granted and do savour every moment of the last 14 years but for our rivals the revenue stream must seem guaranteed unless they can curtail us off the pitch through other means. They can't access it so long as we keep performing and as mentioned earlier in the thread the 20 year plan is bearing the fruit from the trophy cabinet to the academy, it ain't stopping and we're not standing still as others have done. The notion that the new owners would be gone in 3 years at the time seems ridiculous now.

The route to close the gap has been shut by the rules they asked for over FFP / PSR even if the will and ability to invest is present (Newcastle), plays into our hands now as the top of the pyramid.

Everton are effectively the turkeys that voted for Christmas. B B B beautiful...

As far as I can recall I have not previously posted on this subject.

Speaking solely for myself I will be glad when the matter is finally resolved one way or another, preferably of course in our favour. I would also prefer it to be sooner rather than later. I appreciate however as a former solicitor that for a variety reasons this may not be possible.

At the moment it is a cloud hanging over the club and everything we are achieving on and off the pitch.

If ultimately we are cleared all well and good. If not then those people at the club who put us in this position will have to answer for their wrongdoing and what they have done to the club and it’s fans.
