CFG | Academy | EDS in & out season 2024/25

I’d argue Palmer, Roger’s and lavia. Obviously they needed game time to develop and it might not have worked at city if they’d have stayed. I’m not saying they would have necessarily been starters either, but talent wise they are more than good enough to make a difference

If your talking about the current squad, I don’t see why Oriely couldn’t have played in midfield or come off the bench more when we were losing all of those games or Mcatee starting a few more.

I think our academy players are so underrated by our own fans.
Except Palmer was given chances but had obviously been tapped up and wanted to leave for big bucks.

You never saw Rogers at City if you thought he was good enough at that time at least (I'd say nowhere close now, myself).

Lavia left 3 years after Rodri had arrived and (rightly) moved away even if it's not quite worked out yet due to injuries, we made around £20million for him so it's all good.

Of course. And it was obvious he needed more game time to develop. A bit like the unproven centre backs we’ve just signed.

We seem to be able to spot talent, but we then struggle to actually develop the players
We do develop the players though, just look around at the top clubs everywhere who have some of our former youth players (no less than 4 at Chelsea). It's not guaranteed that they'll play for us, and Pep has bemoaned the jump from youth football in this country to 1st team action. That's not on City.

If we want to develop players for other teams that’s great. I’d like to see more of them given a chance in our side though

We develop them until there about 19 and then once they’ve played in the odd cup game, we can’t give them enough game time. I agree the jump from youth football to the first team is huge and the vast majority will never be good enough.

I still think we’ve had a couple of players who would be great in our current squad

His name is Rogers BTW and how does that list equate to him being good enough or not when he was at City? Not that I put any faith in a random list based on "market value". I presume you think we should buy Mason Mount as he's at number 25? 25th best attacking player in the world?
You asked which City ex-academy players we have let go were good enough to make it with us? I showed an independent list identifying 2 current ex-academy players as the 4th and 16th best attacking midfielders in the world.

If you don't agree, it's up to you, there's a lot of analysis behind the data, but it's not an exact science.

I don't know what Mount has to do with anything?

There's loads of other academy players that's also done well. Rogers and Palmer were the most prominent.

not on that site.

It's easy to find fault and criticise but that site is unique, and a very helpful resource, personally I love it. I know some contacts in the industry and it's the only resource on the Internet that has revealed their data.
its great for some info, market value is not one of them imo,

It's the only site on the Internet that attempts it.

Market values are hard to gauge accurately, I think it's great a site is trying and making the information available.

Good enough before they left, not long after the fact.

You quoted the list as proof, not me. Is Mason Mount good enough for us as he's on the first page, yes or no?

I'll help you out, the answers no. And yet he's the 25th best attacking player in the world according to your 'data'.

Was palmer given enough chances? There were long spells where he barely played. For me, we shouldn’t have signed Doku and given palmer that game time on the wing. I don’t think he wanted to leave either.

I didn’t say Roger’s was good enough at the time, but he was never given a chance to develop.

Obviously it’s all hindsight and ifs, but it’s clear we’ve had the talent

Roger's was sent out on 3 separate loans, how much of a chance do you think he deserved? It's not like he set the EDS on fire as it was.

Im not understanding the Morgan Rogers revisionism on here.

He was fine in the academy, but he was never one of the stars.

And his loans were also just fine as well.

Good for him for turning things around at Villa, but he isnt close to an obvious mistake from us like Palmer for example.

Your right....he was gash at Bournemouth, my mates a season ticket holder, and it took ages to convince him, it was the same player now at Villa. He was OK ish at Boro....and yes he's doing really well at Villa, but is it his consistent level over years or just a purple patch? ....the point is we can't keep all these players into their 20's to find out, decisions have to be made earlier.....and you can't "give them minutes" unless they warrant it...his loans at Bournemouth and Boro showed he was not good enough to be given minutes at that stage.
