Andy Burnham | Manchester Mayor

The question is how the fuck have they come up with 90k jobs? I’ve seen enough bullshit CAPEX submissions in my time to know this won’t deliver the outcomes it claims. As for growth, I last worked for a CEO who planted a fuck off tree in the office to signify growth & claimed the business would grow 3X in 5 years…….it didn’t. Like politicians these make great razamatazz announcements but politicians have no operational experience & they think people are thick.

The freight terminal being moved can be done without any requirement to be part of this, i’d describe it as “regeneration washing”. This doesn’t need the wider project to make it a goer.

Sense check figure

Trafford centre currently 8k jobs
Trafford Park at its peak employed 75k with 10k at British Westinghouse (vickers)

It’s why the Rags moved their, factories closed at 12pm Saturday, then pub, kicked out then to the football as everything was closed at 3pm
Great information thanks

I think they have purposely worded it ‘90,000 employment opportunities’ which sounds like a politicians sleight of hand to infer 90,000 jobs are created but more likely 90000 opportunities to work on the site across the whole process. So for an example a pipefitter who is already employed as a pipefitter will get an employment opportunity to work on the site during the construction phase but he won’t be employed permanently at the end of the process.

In some areas these ‘employment opportunities’ may last a couple of weeks.

Why shouldn't/couldn't/can't Piccadilly Gardens be returned to public realm as a park ?

If the law enforcement authorities can't or won't manage the law breakers that isn't a valid reason to not to recreate a beautiful space.

The Mayfield Depot project has a superb city park as its centre piece and new 'neighbourhood parks' are planned for other areas of the NQ & beyond.

Piccadilly should & can be a magnificent centre piece to Manchester again with new and innovative vision.

The current tired old lags could run a bath !!

An ADUG designed stadium has been designed and will be located on the site of CFA.

It's all part of a long, term, complex, futuristic plan, involving Tesla,Asda,Gas site,Athletics & Tennis centres, which I've described before on another thread.

Think Saadiyat & Yas Islands & you'll start to get the picture.
Wow, tell us more, brilliant

Nothing more to tell actually.

The plans & CGGs exist & are revisited/updated ongoing.

City will aquire all developable land as the opportunity's arise.

Trains,Trams,Stations & Hubs will all be expanded/developed in line with the long term master plan.

Take a look at Saadiyat & Yas as examples of the art of the possible.

We're only just starting !!

It might even mean 90k can apply for the 250 jobs ;)

It’s a shame because Manchester & the country as a whole needs a truely innovative investment we can all get behind.

Years ago they used to promise to build a new hospital, now imagine that kind of investment….

Do you mind? Selling spice is one of the only growth industries we have at the moment…… :)

Why would billions be spent on building desperately needed new hospitals, schools and housing when it can be gifted to billionaires to make them richer?
Get with the program mate

Maybe that was parts of Jim’s pitch, sell me a slice, I will invest (as little as possible) to get us planning permission and as much taxpayer money as possible then we flip the club for billions more than it was worth previously???

I'd be interested to know your source and whether this information is freely available to the public.

Imagine the biggest hospital in the country & medical university, probably need lots of apartments & hotels…. Nah, no one would vote for that.

Strange that “caring” doesn’t get measured in productivity.

That's the plan from the start.

The Qatari's haven't gorn away.

They are playing the long game, and as rats reputation gets increasingly traduced, they become the white (brown) knights and rat scurries orf with the wedge.

The rags and the raggies are being played like a dying fish !!

They really weren't mate, and we are talking about the day time not the nights. Every city centre where they have made it into a pedestrian zone has fell flat on its face.

Today's Piccadilly gardens IMHO are a wart, a stain on the face of Manchester and it needs removing. I have never felt so ashamed of where I grew up than now.

Make it busy
Police it
Move that shithole of a Mcdonalds
Get the feel of the place back
Agree with getting rid of Macdonalds. Everywhere there is one turns to a bigger shithole.
They should be forced to pay to have the surrounding areas cleaned of their packaging.

If you think McDonalds is bad for litter, you should see the litter thrown away by some of the people who buy food from Miami Crispy in Burnage. The queues are like this almost every day during the late afternoon and evening.

And no, I haven't eaten from there out of principal.

PS. If anyone is thinking of going to buy some food from there, it's cash only. ;-)

I hear it's crap and simply a gen z instacunt phenomenon.
Tragic, easily led idiots, queuing to have a selfie with a bag of fried chicken.

Somewhat like the new wave chip shop here in Prestwich called 'Chips @ No 8'. It is a hipsters paradise all whilst paying double the price of what other chip shops in the area charge.

Sport England paid £77 million towards the cost of building the City of Manchester stadium, for the Commonwealth Games.
Manchester City Council payed £35 million towards the £112 million cost.
When it was turned into a football stadium, City and the Council payed about £20 million each for the conversion.
Since then, City have spent around £500 million or more on it alone, besides all the money spent on the training and academy facilities, COOP arena and regeneration of the area around Beswick etc.
For Burnham to say City benefitted from significant funding is outragious.
This United project is going to cost billions of Government money, benefitting a club in debt, who seemingly can get away with breaching rules that City are being hung out to dry for.
You couldn’t hate that club any more if you tried.
I hope it all goes to rat shit and a huge backlash ensues.
That.
