Would love to know whats gone on behind the scenes. Sending Mcatee on is a dereliction of duty unless a huge falling out has occurred.

I don't know what's going on behind the scenes but I don't think his appearances on the pitch this season have been sufficiently poor to be frozen out to this extent.

He hasn't set the world alight, and has obviously struggled with injuries and general fitness, and we all know the goalscoring situation. But he hasn't put in the kinds of stinkers that some of the more trusted players have, who've been given the luxury of playing themselves into form. He's largely looked reasonably solid and in his better performances he's been one of our better players.

So, okay, maybe there's a problem off the pitch. Could be anything and I don't really like to speculate. He could be acting like a total dickhead or he could just be struggling with some circumstances we don't know. Whatever.

At 29, he should be at the peak of his powers. There is a player in there with a future, even if it's not with us. He's a confidence player who is at his best when he feels needed and trusted and he's given some sort of regular game time. The longer he goes without getting that, the harder it's going to be and the longer it's going to take to get him up to speed.

So, fix the problem or move him on.

However small or injured the squad is, you're not getting any benefit from having a player who you never play. It's not good for the player or the squad for this continue - however nice a bloke he may be, he's obviously going to be miserable with this state of affairs and it'll affect morale.

He's an asset we paid £100m for. It's bad business to stick him on the bench for months. We're not getting anything out of him and we're driving down his resale price.

People keep bringing up the Forest match as proof he should be starting in midfield - do they also want Gundogan starting in midfield beside him and Bernardo Silva starting on the right every week too? Because they both played against Forest too

Maybe some last minute loan move or something's going to happen so keeping him away from the pitch and potential injury
If that's the case then let him get a runout to say goodbye in a game that's done and dusted after 70 minutes.

This perfectly covers his situation for me. Hate the possibility of him leaving in the summer to another PL team just to get his Villa/City treble season form back because he's given an actual chance to play. Could definitely play a big role in our midfield next season with Rodri and whoever we get to replace KdB if he's still here.

The unequal treatment he's gotten for not even playing that poorly is what stands out given how our midfield has been.

So you're just ignoring that both of the hypotheticals you bring up have happened already? Gundo has proven he's not capable of starting anymore and Bernardo has played on the right since then dropping one of his worst performances in a city shirt.

He doesn’t look fit to me. He looks knackered all the time too.

He’s a guy that needs to play regularly to get into a rhythm and match fit. Not sure how he can achieve that at the moment.

Play EDS games to get in rhythm?

FA Cup against Leyton Orient is probably the next appearance, but doubt he plays again after that. Not sure what the policy is with senior players going down to EDS, but we need him in the first team.

Grealish only has 1 position, in which hes currently abput 5th or 6th choice. savinho was one of the very few sparks of light in that dark display, he was playing in Grealish's position. I think it's as simple as that as to why he didn't come on.

Catch up - no one here is calling for him to play winger. Our midfield picked on opinions of yesteryear that gets dominated by even midtable teams is where we want him to play.

£100m is starting to look like very poor business. He was great from January to April in the treble winning season decent overall across that full season, but where the fuck is he now? He’s put in about £15m worth of top level performances over his 3½ years of that transfer fee.

WHERE THE FUCK IS HE?

Grealish played in the middle vs Juventus as well. he was awful.

now Pep clearly said he wants end product from wingers, since he said that Grealish playing time is less and less. but we said it long before in this topic he needs to bring better numbers from left wing. he didnt and now Savinho, Doku, Marmoush all will be played sooner than him imo in left wing.

this latest that he is not being used, and kept as unused sub which is a new low for him in his City career is clearly message to his agent. start looking for a club who can bring us an acceptable offer.

The whole team was crap against Juve, so why single out Grealish? Foden, Gundo, Kova, Bernardo and de Bruyne have had plenty poor performances this season yet they're thrown in game after game to the same result. Grealish's worst performance isn't as poor as what we've seen from who I mentioned above.

FFS let's try something different in the middle.

Nothing to catch up on. He's 29 and spent 99% of his career playing off the left wing, he's a left winger. We've got a manager who plays central defenders in midfield in champions league finals. We've got wingers at fullback, the manager will play people in unconventional positions if he thinks it's workable, he has played grealish centrally less than half a dozen times in what is nearing 4 years, it's pretty clear he isn't a central midfielder in the managers eyes and this obsession that 1 half decent game (and it was nothing more than that) proves he's now a central midfield option isn't something I buy into.

Grealish didn't get a single goal or assist against Forest yet it's OK for people to use that match as an example of why Pep is, and has been his whole time here according to some, wasting Grealish on the wing.

Let's not go holding all of Pep's decisions as gospel given he went into a CL final without a DM in the starting lineup considering he had Fernandinho and Rodri in the squad at the time.

Grealish has attributes that can be utilized anywhere on the pitch and our midfield would benefit from having him in there. We can't hold the ball to save our lives and we have no legs to win the ball higher up the pitch or win second balls yet Kova and Bernardo are somehow going to be fresh after playing a full 90 yet again.

KDB's take on it:

Despite no goal involvements, Grealish was heavily involved in City’s play, having 77 touches of the ball and boasting a 98% pass success rate, the highest on the pitch.

“Jack is so good at controlling the tempo of the game, at holding the ball,” said Player of the Match De Bruyne after the game.

“You can’t really get it off him, and then sliding through plays. That’s his quality.

“Maybe with the type of guys we have on the flanks, he’s very good at that. I think we needed a bit more control and he was able to do that with Bernardo, Gundo and myself in the middle, and Jeremy who is a different player and very electric.

“I think we performed well as a team but I think Jack did exceptional.”

Because you are on the Grealish thread.

Head over to the Doku, Gundogan, Ederson, Kovacic etc. threads and you might come across something similar.
