Best car you have ever owned

Both not company cars...

Probably my Fiat Punto, cracking little car, did everything asked of it and more and it was surprisingly reliable, had done 120k when I got rid. Makes you wonder where Fiat went wrong in the supermini section of the market as all-round it seemed a better car than the equivalent Fiesta or Corsa.

At the opposite end, my Audi A6 3.0 TDI quattro, built like a tank, effortless to drive and had every conceivable comfort on it. Bought it nearly new as an ex demo (loaded with options) with a few thousand on the clock and only got rid after an idiot in a hire van smashed into the front of the car (he was charged with driving without due care). At the time it had done 165k miles and not missed a beat.

Must admit I do find the latest batch of modern cars a little uninspiring, I have had my fair share of cars but I really dont like any of the new stuff. My wife still has my old 2018 S5 which is a good car, but by no means trouble free (haldex problems but now fixed with a new controller), god knows what to get next as there is nothing (in the sensible money price range) that I like. Through work I have an electric Audi Etron GT and its OK, looks nice, its quick in a straight line but its just soulless.

I bought a Prius 6 years ago for 2500 and have put on 130k miles in that time, it's currently on 303k. Ultra reliable and is still worth what I paid for it. I value reliability above everything else when it comes to a car and you can't beat Toyota in that respect.
You’ve put 130,000 miles on it and it’s still worth what you paid for it??!! Wow

Currently got an 2007 XJ Jag (my second one) 2.7D Sovereign that I've had almost ten years. Spent far too much on it over the years, quite a few dings and dents on it and it's worth less than a couple of grand now but a great car to drive (and I think it's the best looking saloon car ever made).
I think the best car I ever owned though was a Citroen BX in the early 90's , loaded it up with two kids, tons of luggage and three pushbikes on a rack and went to Brittany a few times when my sons were little. Fast enough, comfortable, quirky, economical and never missed a beat and the kids used to love the adjustable suspension, I swapped it for a Citroen ZX but wish I still had it today.
Honorable mention to a 2.0GL Capri as well that I swapped for an Escort when my wife was learning to drive and she hated the long bonnet. (Also had a Reliant Robin at one point but that's another story!)

I had a Toyota Corolla, one made in Japan. Had it 12 years, did 180,000 miles, same clutch and exhaust when I sold it. It never let me down. Only ever had new tyres and brakes done. Gear box was smooth as silk.

Ferrari 308 GTS QV, the car I regret selling more than any other and still one of the best looking cars ever made.

Audi A4 B8 2009

It felt faster than it was, never let me down. Had done 150k and still sweet. Oh and 60+mpg

Astra Estate 1.7Diesel 02 plate
Bought it with 15k on the clock as i used to do a lot of match fishing and worked away a fair bit.
Only got rid due to kid no4 on the way (changed to Zafira).

Sold to my step brother who was commuting a fair way into London every day to work on the Dome.
He liked it that much that when it got side swiped by a flat bed truck, he bought it back off the insurance and carried on using it.
When i asked if he had any issues with it, he said, 'yeah, my HR dept phoning me every week cos i've not put in enough fuel receipts for the mileage claimed'

Corsa 1.2 N reg. lived outside winter after winter and never once didn’t start first time.

Like an old girlfriend....god I miss her.......SLK320 smooth V6 engine and brilliant to drive, but failed her MOT and the cost to repair plus to do any remeadial work far outwieghed her worth. So I replaced her with a Mini Cooper S, what a fucking joke. Should have gone with my heart and not my head, spent the money and sod the value .

Best car was the Ford Galaxy. Brilliant it was, captain seats in front was great for days out with kids.

A close second was my Polo G40 just because it looked like your nans shopping car but in the words of one road traffic officer “that’s blooming quick what is it?” as he was writing out my ticket.

On the other end of the spectrum I hated my BMW 5 series and Mrs MBs had a BMW 1 series I loathed - and Mrs MBs current car which is a Mini I also hate. Fucking awful cars and shit build quality.

2008 Honda Civic Type S (8th generation) in Tangerine Metallic. Was the 2.2 i-CTDi so went like shit off a shovel but still returned at least 40mpg. Was maintained regardless of cost when I owned it but has no doubt gone to the great scrapyard in the sky by now.

I know it ain’t natural, but I really really miss that car.

Of course it's natural 8-)
I've always been more into bikes, when I was 19 I had a beautiful Kawasaki Z900 with Lester wheels and some bastard nicked it. I was utterly bereft and remember going nuts in the police station expect them to isse an immediate APB! I've never got over it and would buy it back in a heartbeat. If you ever come across KTD 573P then let me know!

Mazda 626 1.8 GLS.

200,000 miles of absolute trouble free motoring.

Only ever serviced it myself.

Died because it failed the MOT due to worn valve guide seals, which I would have done but it needed 4 tyres, new windscreen, pads, service and critically, was on its original timing belt....

Cheaping out on the service consumables caught up with it in the end.

Was genuinely upset when I sent it to the scrap yard but it had earned a long rest.

2010 Volvo XC90. Bought it in 2016, done 250k in it, and still bulletproof. (Hope I haven't hexed it now!).
