I won't be happy unless a right back comes in. Many of our problems have come from that position this season. So unless Gonzalez can literally come in and start controlling games like Rodri and minimise the need for proper defenders, I think we'll still struggle. And don't forget, if we don't get CL next season, negotiations for top top players will be VERY different, if not Impossible in the summer.

There's no reason to think that is correct. I suspect players will know this is a blip of sorts rather than a decline.

Just in our case, Yaya, Aguero and Silva joined us before we qualified for the Champs League.

Why didn't we sign this guy first week of Jan if we were just going to pay the release clause anyway?
He has a release clause plus there are a couple of sell on clauses that maybe needed shutting down or changing.
There was a 40% to Barca apparently and Porto have a 20% sell on too so I presume it's took this long with negotiations and going back and forth.
Or maybe after yesterday pep thought we need him.

He is a dead and wasted player, since 2017 he has played all the possible minutes that exist in club football, every stronger midfield overruns us in a second when they see that Bernardo is playing. Thank him for everything.

Aguero didn't.

And we weren't hamstrung by any PSR requirements re. Fee/Wages at that stage.

Think with Bernardo we need to manage his minutes and workload better. Has run himself into the ground again this year given the gaps he has to cover. Would hope for better next year or he may be another who starts to feel the toll of the work he puts in. Needs to help guide us through the changing of the guard and pass on that desire and fire to the incoming lads. For me time for Gundogan , KDB and unfortunately Grealish to be moved on well before Bernardo.

Agree, he needs help and he’s not really getting any. Hopefully he and Gvardiol have been sent on a 7 day holiday.

This might be true if you are a club like Spurs or Villa. Not when you are one of Real Madrid/Barcelona/Bayern/Man City, a club everyone knows will be a main contender for trophies regardless if they had a bad season.

Ah, you're right about Aguero. Forgot he joined us just a few months after we first qualified.

Anyway......re being hamstrung by PSR requirements, worth noting we only spent around £20m in the summer and we will be getting at least 50m euros from the CWC. You would also have to think we will be letting go of some big earners this summer.

Does anyone think he moves a bit like Fabian Ruiz?

If he can build anywhere near the relationship Ruiz had with Rodri in the euros then that would be a scary prospect for most sides facing us from the start of next season!

Because we wanted to see the final result vs. the gooners

No offence intended to you but that is complete shite.

Rags, Chelsea, and others have proven time and again that being out of the CL doesn't mean half as much as us fans think it does. We all imagine no top player would go to a team that isn't in the CL because of the honour and prestige of the competition, but the vast majority will go where the money is and that's that.

Plus we have the draw of Pep, Haaland, etc.

Any player with half a brain can see they'd still have a better long-term chance of winning the CL and lots of other trophies with City than with almost any other team in Europe, even if they had to make do with one year out of the competition. So I'm confident we would have no problem whatsoever tempting a Wirtz or a Musiala to join us even if we finish outside top 4/5.

Dias wasn't our first choice and that didn't turn out too badly.

I appreciate that, but the current situation means we really need to get things right in the market. The jury is out on a number of recent signings. However, in Viana we have someone close to the Portuguese league and with an eye for young talent so we've got to hope he's the right fit for us.
