The new Labour government in the United Kingdom has announced it will resume funding to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).

“We are overturning the suspension of UNRWA funding,” British Foreign Secretary David Lammy told Parliament on Friday, adding that the UN agency was “absolutely central” to providing humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Sir Keir Starmer has pledged £13 million to the UN's Palestinian aid agency despite allegations linking its staff to the Oct 7 massacre. The funds will support Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the West Bank, and beyond. After meeting the agency's chief, Sir Keir called for a Gaza ceasefire, hostage releases, and better aid worker protection, despite Israel banning the agency in its territories.

Anything that gets in the way of a negotiated two state solution is, to put it mildly, unhelpful. The task is to get 'reasonable' people into leadership positions of both sides. Trump replacing Biden is not helpful. Starmer/Sunak have both done well.

Im not a muslim but I didn't vote labour this time for the same reason as a lot of democrats wouldn't have voted for harris - I'm not voting for genocide. I've not had kids being blown to pieces live streamed to my phone every day for over a year only to actually go out and vote for the people who not only allow it but help contribute to it

I get the "lesser evil" argument, but all of what's being said and done was already being said and done anyway, its just that Trump has actually come out and said it himself so it's finally got some mainstream media attention. Could argue we wouldn't even have this (supposed) temporary ceasefire if the democrats were still in

Truth is both the democrats and Republicans are occupied by israel (see AIPAC) and the genocide and ethnic cleansing will carry on anyway. It will carry on from here when the news story changes and israel and the US just carry on mass murdering and press on with their ethnic cleansing, and few people will give a fuck. It was the same when israel bombed the first hospital in gaza - global outrage. Then the propaganda is pumped out, news story changes and barely anyone gave a fuck as Israel went on and bomb every other hospital, school and mosque in gaza. Doubt this will be different unfortunately
 
Keir Starmer weighed in on Donald Trump's idea to resettle Palestinians in Gaza elsewhere.

"They must be allowed home, they must be allowed to rebuild, and we should be with them in that rebuild on the way to a two-state solution," he told MPs in the Commons.

He also said the "most important issue" at the moment is making sure the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel holds
