Sam Kerr

I don't disagree with you. The police could have done better. Mewis and Kerr could have done much, much better.

The two footballers, behaved like spoiled, petulant children.

Yeah nobody has covered themselves in glory. I think it's a massive waste of time that it's ended up in court though.

Yes and no. If the government is going to charge and prosecute average Janes and Johns, people with some money and fame have to be prosecuted as well.

Or the alternative is to not charge them and allow them to smash taxis and racially abuse the police.Imagine going to another country and abusing their police?

Let me think which way it should pan out?

I don't think your average James and Johns would have been prosecuted for it though. If the police were prosecuting every pissed person who spoke like Kerr did in a police station then our courts would be backed up even more than they are now. Having watched the footage of what she said in the police station I think the officer involved is lying when he says he felt "humiliated" and I don't believe he doesn't hear miles worse every single day in that job.

People tell U.S. cops to “Fuck off!” all the time and give them the finger all the time…for sport. They’ve learned it’s protected freedom of speech. They also record almost every interaction, ask police to make sure their body cam is recording video AND audio, and get names and badge numbers.

While I’m certainly not a fan of what’s said and done, the Police have to learn to laugh it off, because it’s usually only ignorant people that do it.

This is all true.

Bit of a tip mate, this isn't the US.

If we are going to have laws in this country they have to be applied evenly to everyone, criminal damage and racial abuse should be prosecuted. If the police have to laugh criminal damage and racial abuse then we all have to don't we?

You know I usually have some respect for what you usually type but IMHO in this case you're wrong.

You don't think that the average person wouldn't have been arrested and charged with criminal damage and racial abuse? That's a weird statement.

Excellent tip. Enjoy the ride down the slippery slope. I’ll wave from the Freedom seats.

Your trip wire for “racial abuse” is a little tight!

As for the criminal damage, I’ve already said to do them for it, and D&D.

I respect your opinion that you’ve lost some respect for me. I will have to live with that. But, more importantly, I have to live with myself, so I’ll stick to my guns, if you’ll pardon the pun?!

You can't take the high ground when the US is shitting itself as we speak on the freedom front mate ;-)

The Sarah Everard reference becomes a lot more relevant when you read that the taxi driver diverted them to the police station under the instruction of the police.

For what it's worth, I think it sounds like her and Mewis are totally in the wrong for refusing to pay the cleaning bill whilst being paralytic in the back of a taxi.

However for the police to tell the driver to take them to a police station is completely insane behaviour and put all of them, driver included, in a potentially very unsafe situation. I have to say, if a taxi driver told me he was driving me to a police station because the police had told him to I wouldn't believe that was even a thing and I would start wondering if I was being abducted. Throw alcohol into the mix too and i can see how it spiralled.

How? You're a taxi driver doing your job trying to earn a living and two drunks throw up in your cab. That means not only have you got the absolutely gross job of cleaning it up but it takes you off the road until it's sorted, so losing you money. Therefore you rightly ask for extra money to compensate for that. They refuse and judging by their behaviour in the controlled environment of a police station they probably started to get aggressively abusive at this request. So you phone the police, who can't send somebody out as they haven't got anybody available. Inside the police station they have though so they suggest driving them there so they can sort it out. Perfect.
The pair of scrotes could have just paid what he asked for and it was done. Even when getting to the police station it would probably have been done if they would have done the same, paid the bill. Instead they refused and chose to get abusive. Any alarm or distress they felt for their own actions is on their own empty heads.

I already said they were bang out of order for vomming in his cab and not paying up.

Howevee its illegal for a taxi driver to hold someone against their will in their car. Its a madness that the emergency services would outsource the transportation of suspects to a cilvilian on a whim. Like I say, it puts the taxi driver at risk too. No way should that have happened.

Oh come on, the police aren't outsourcing taxi's to transport suspects anywhere. Here's how the conversation probably went.

"We can't get someone out to you mate but you're not far from here, drive them over and we'll try and sort it out."

What was the alternative? He lets them go and sucks it up, so he's out of pocket and has their spew to clean up?

It was a common sense approach. The driver probably informed them that if they didn't pay he was taking them straight to the police station. They had a choice.

Let them sue the taxi driver and the police if they feel hard done by. Here's my suggestion. Don't throw up in cabs and if they do have the decency to pay the poor driver who has to clean up their shit.

There's absolutely no way the police and/dispatchers should be advising members of the public to transport people (who could be potentially violent) to a police station. End of.

And don't try to kick out the rear window and partition. I do not know what it would cost replace the partition but auto glass is not inexpensive. A few hundred quid, I'd reckon, to replace the back window maybe?

End of nothing. Each case is different. I believe this is exactly the advice they give if in close proximity to a police station to sort out such arguments. Refusing to pay for a service is theft, just like stealing. If in a black cab it is perfect because the doors can be locked and the driver has a protective screen. In a private hire vehicle probably not a great solution.
Personally I'd say kick the shit out of them, rub their faces in the spew then if they had any cash on them take it and leave them on the kerb.
