If there is an willingness on both sides to settle I would say the best way is to involve both sides in negotiation.

Utter fantasy. This will all end up at the negotiating table with Russia and the west thrashing out a settlement they can live with and protects their interests. The idea that any western leaders actually care about Ukraine is for the birds.

Hegseth said any durable peace must include "robust security guarantees to ensure that the war will not begin again".

However, he said "the United States does not believe that Nato membership for Ukraine is a realistic outcome of a negotiated settlement".

Instead, security guarantees should be backed by "capable European and non-European troops".

"If these troops are deployed as peacekeepers to Ukraine at any point, they should be deployed as part of a non-Nato mission and they should not be covered under Article 5," he said, referring to the alliance's mutual defence clause.

Now I read this as America making sure that if (or when) it kicks off again, with european peacekeepers in the firing line, they are there without the protection afforded them by article 5, and hence no requirement for america to put its muscle where its mouth is currently going

Broadcasters and press who repeat regime propaganda are rewarded. Those who don't are punished. Friendly oligarchs get to join the government.

This is exactly how it started in Putin's Russia. It ends with killing your opponents and invasion of neighbouring countries.

It's in progress in America now.

Basically, we will give Russia what it wants and if there’s any further conflict, you’re on your own.

My respect for America at this moment in time is at an all time low.
