He’s the one that should be playing the rico role rather than getting chalk on his boots, based off last nights performance.

He’s great coming inside, wonderfully balanced and poised for his size and doesn’t look out of place anywhere on the pitch.

Get Akanji or Khusanov at right back, let Josko float about wherever he wants.

Who’s to say he couldn’t play the role Stones played last night even?

World class

Agree. There was a point first half where I thought there is actually nobody better than him at what he does now. Can't say that about many of our players currently unfortunately. So, let's not change his role, his position, whatever. When we have somebody this good at what they are doing, let them get on with it.

gvardiol and john stones were different class v real madrid, get a right back with similar qualities and we would be in a good place

Watch how Stones defends for their 3rd goal and tell me that's different class. Slow in reading the situation and reacting, let Bellingham run away and score the easiest goal in his career.

His legs had totally gone at that point to be fair to him, when's the last time he played 90 mins, let alone against a front 3 of that quality

Would rather not have Gvardiol in that same role as Lewis. Gvardiol does so well at taking up spaces in the channel and dragging defenders out of position. We lose what he brings to our offense if he’s pinned back to play in midfield like Lewis.

I think you are right. Both his passing and defending went south in the last 15 minutes or so. Also, the DM position is more demanding physically wise, it requires more running up and down the pitch.

Still, Stones played 90 minutes vs Brugge, two weeks prior to Real, and also vs Arsenal, 10 days before that. It's understandable that people are ready to offer excuses, but the truth is he was part of the problems in the final minutes. Real played vs Atletico 3 days before our game and finished much stronger than us. We need new players in the summer. Wouldn't be surprised if we signed other defenders.

how people don’t get this is beyond me.

he does not choose the tactics, he even mentioned the issue of getting back in time when he’s so far up the pitch.

It’s been asked several times but who the fcuk are our defensive coaches and how the fcuk do they spend their time?

When a player like Gvardiol is licensed to go forward, others should be drilled to cover. It’s hardly rocket science.

As others have said and that video showed, he did not deserve to lose to Madrid.

Whether inverting or going wide, giving this guy more license to join the attack in whatever way Pep allows that is best for us.

My main worry right now is if he is getting overplayed, he is young at 23 so has that almost endless stamina, but we need to be careful.

I think currently, while I like Gvardiol as a wide fullback as well, perhaps starting Stones as a DM, having Gvardiol invert from LB to make the 3-2 shape Pep likes so much is a good idea.

Balance that with Khusanov as the RB making the back 3.

Cant believe he is a natural CB, his dynamic is outstanding and he worths every penny. The best thing is he can still get better.

If he can get the composure of Stones i can imagine he could play everywhere on the pitch

Josko Gvardiol is the best left back in the world. And Nico O'Reilly might be top 40 currently with top 5 potential.

Let me be clear- Man City's search for a Left back is now closed!!! Closed i say. Closed!!!

And supposedly the academy has this crazy talented LB/LCB hybrid who looks like Gvardiol as well.

What was once a position I was adamant needed another signing for depth... I am less worried about it now.

RB is still a worry for me though.

We are not the same team when we play with him and without him. It was best seen in the FA Cup, we are a meaningless team when he doesn't play and we have the ball.

Agree that he's great going forward - but it's a bit scary when he's defending. He's prone to the occasional bad pass and on defense at LB, he's not great.

On offense though, Gvardiol is extremely good.
