Newcastle United (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Ivenot seen a lot of Newcastle this year..id be interested to see what they thought about their performance...was it sub par for this season or were we just so much better that we have been all season - or a mix of both???

They're better at home but they have done okay on the road too. They've probably got one eye on the cup final now.

Cant fucking wait to see Rodri and Nico together
was thinking the same...imagine having the ability to release Rodri that bit further forward......it will cause mayhem as we know Rodri is a huge goal threat as well as creative threat...him being able to be that without the concern of playing the loan 6 has huge potential.....or vice versa of course

Has Pep stumbled across something here? Gundogan ticked things over v nicely with Gonzalez, the passing was slick, incisive and lots of triangles which took out Newcastle's press. Movement was good and NO BRAINFARTS!

As someone said earlier we have a free shot on weds, realistically we need to win by two clear goals. On today's showing it's possible.

Up the moosh

Nico was always going to improve the midfield. Then you add in the goals from Omar and they could be 2 signings which really help us this season.

Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was a tough day at the office - they played well, we didn't. The goals were poor moments, we will have to analyse them and work out what we could do better.

"From the off we were lacking in duels, the physical side. Man City are so good in the build-up, to disrupt that you have to be exceptional physically and we weren't.

"We can't look for excuses, there are a load of reasons we could look at, but the players should have been fresh and ready to perform, they didn't.

"We've got some tough games, the fixture list will test us. We have to dust ourselves off for next week."

"It was a tough game, they are still the toughest team to play against. We were not at our best today.

"Goals change games, and the goal we concede early was a tough one for us. All the goals we conceded today we will look back on with frustration. It becomes difficult when you chase the game today, really tough.

"They ask so many questions of you, put you under pressure. They did not have a bundle of chances but they did what they needed to do.

"It's about growing for the next games and learning from today. When you come back into these arenas, fare better, that's the challenge."

Fantastic performance from the off. I know Marmoush will get the headlines and rightly so, but having Gonzo in that middle breaking stuff up was an absolute fucking pleasure! I really can not remember the last time we gave the opposition so little chances and dangerous attacks after we lost the ball,it was brilliant! Kushinov was very good and his strength is very clear to see. Johnny Stones magnificent and marshalled that defence like the world class defender he is. Erling, whilst not scoring was everywhere and gave 100% and special mention to the whipping boy and Mr Whipping boy, Rico was magnificent and needed that performance whilst Gundogen(even though I felt a bit sick when I seen him in team) played a very intelligent game with some lovely interceptions and passes(it's amazing what playing with a proper DM can do for you) Every player today all 7+ Oh, and what an assist from Eddie. I must admit, I thought the worst when I seen the team, but hey, who am I or anybody to think bad of this team for what they've given us. I fuckin love this club and I am absolutely fucking buzzing! And other than Bournemouth, all the results have gone our way. CTIFD!!! :)

First great performance in months! Great to see Marmoush score goals but the most important thing for me was that with Nico in midfield we could finally control the game. First time in ages against decent opposition we didn't concede loads of chances. Khusanov with a strong performance as well, he has to start at RB midweek.

Arguably our best performance of the season. Everyone played their part in that.

Marmoush is going to be huge for us isn’t he?

Savinho was unplayable, especially in the 1st half.

Stones was excellent and I think I might have a bit of a man-crush on Khusanov…could be the real deal this fella.

Nico gave us a calmness in midfield that we have been missing all season. Looks the business.

Special mention for Gundo and Rico, far and away their best performances of the season.

Got to follow that up now and box off that top 4 position.
Agreed.Gundo looked like a big weight had been taken off him,and that was down to Nico.
