Controlled the game, directed those around him(demanding Rico to pull tighter to him early on for example) and some Rodriesque body between ball and attacker defending. Was superb and I was not familiar with that part of his game from Porto where he had a more attacking role. He'll be in next Spain squad keeps playing like that.

You have to assume that displays like that will provide a psychological boost to Rodri too. Knowing as he continues his recovery that he will have an understudy/partner in crime to avoid him being rushed or overplayed on his return must make him feel good.

Easy to see why we’ve tracked him for so long. Seamless display against a very good midfield.
As other have pointed out, he took 3/4 years off Gundogan, gave proper passing lanes to Ederson and the centre backs.
Was always in the right position to stop the simple transition ball that’s been killing us.
Tougher tests to come, but a signing with huge potential.

That'd be the canine's testes. Not sure I can see Wirtz coming to us, though. Even if he does leave Leverkusen, he'll more than likely end up at Bayern.

We have to replaced Kdb with quality. So yes, need Wirtz as a KdB replacement. Wirtz isn't replacing Foden, he is replacing KdB. The more quality players we have the more games and trophies we win.

A great home debut.

He's exactly what we've needed for a while now and we looked a different team with him in the middle.

I'm not only surprised we never got him last summer, but why it took so long to buy him in this past window!

Nico next to Rodri, i'm looking forward to that already!
