Russian invasion of Ukraine

Phillips P O Brien weekly update.

Spot on again, as he has been since the very start.

Always worth a read.

A very good and sobering read.

The first comment in response to the article seems very apt, that we now no longer live in a post-WWII world, but in a pre-WWIII world.

Maybe a bit dramatic, but O’Brien is probably right when he says that this is the most important week in European history since 1991, perhaps 1945.

A mate came up with an interesting theory that does sound like it has potential to pan out.

The US agrees with Russia to remove all bases from Europe in return for pre 2014 borders.

Trump gets his removal of bases and seems like a massive win getting the borders back. Russia get to claim a big win getting US bases out of Europe.

Easy, then the US would have to take its military bases and personal back home. All those thousands of redundant men and machines stationed in Europe without a reason for being here since they have no intention of ever using them.?
Maybe that’s Trumps peace plan I can’t see it 1739709482144.jpeg myself America voted for the elderly gentleman who preaches peace and isolationism “America first” a. European force to take over the vacated bases.

The republicans or the so called GOP have enabled the Orange crime boss and his thugs to completely destabilise the entire globe. Europe will need to step up and fill the void left by this rogue actor. Russia is a power but one we can’t be intimidated by, hopefully the craven GOP will stop an American civil war that is the most likely outcome let alone the wider picture. Europe needs to up defence spending and make sure Russia knows any further excursions will be met by an iron response.

Europe needs to spend heavily on arms,Mainly european arms and start closing the American bases down. They dont see our vision so why would we want them in our lands...Since the 1945 war the yanks have dragged us in to more wars,Mainly russian and chinese backed regimes.

I’m in agreement but sadly cannot see the UK Government wanting to sever links

It appears that the current us administration are all for ceding territory when ruSSia puts a claim on it. As I recall, nit too long ago, ruSSia stated that they wanted Alaska back. As this was originally ruSSian land are the us going to give it back? There is little difference in the claims on Ukrainian land and Alaska.
And if it did happen they would evoke article 5 and want Europe to come to their aid. At which point we should all collectively stick 2 fingers up at 'em

Im not suggesting it would be a good move for the US, but Trump has hinted he wants to do this a number of times and Hegseth said a couple of days ago that Europe cannot rely on US troops being in Europe forever.
