Russian invasion of Ukraine

A mate came up with an interesting theory that does sound like it has potential to pan out.

The US agrees with Russia to remove all bases from Europe in return for pre 2014 borders.

Trump gets his removal of bases and seems like a massive win getting the borders back. Russia get to claim a big win getting US bases out of Europe.
Absolutely zero chance the US gives up its strategic bases across Europe.

Biggest topic for me is defining a new European leading structure to address our systemic management problem debating too long instead of making decisions followed by direct action. More efficiency.

I wish Scandinavian countries up in the good old North would be given more voice and faith as they talk no nonsense and are not afraid to face Putin.
Germany, France and UK haven't really proven to be able to lead the lot.
We need to invent a new structure, and quick.
We are under pressure, maybe that helps to go a new way and put security first above ANYTHING else.

I think Trump/Putin relationship and their negotiating will be a big issue to be discussed

Putin is on his arse, Trump is fully aware of that but he also recognises a fellow “ego” and it was always going to end with Putin being given an exit strategy that allows him in some way to save face.

Ukraine can’t win and Russia can’t win. It’s a bloodbath of WW1 vintage with men thrown into a meat grinder by both sides for literally a few kms of land.

The financial impact that this war has had on us all is enormous and whilst they might talk tough and not admit it, Europes leaders will be equally desperate for things to go back to how they where and that’s exactly what will happen here btw, sanctions will be lifted, trade will start again and Russian gas will flow.

All the world can do is sit and wait for Putin and co to depart the world stage and cross fingers the next wallopers in charge are a bit more normal.

Yes, both sides here are definitely comparable. Nothing to choose between them.

I didn’t say they are but like many, you can’t help but twist to suit.

How much land has been won/lost since the start of the war and what has it cost in lives? They’re literally fighting trench warfare, going over the top into open no man’s land.

That was my point as well you know along with saying neither side can win.

China will take Taiwan next and the big 3 and their leaders will do whatever the fuck they want sadly.
There are numerous logistical/geographical impediments to this - apparently: https://www.cfr.org/article/why-china-would-struggle-invade-taiwan

I'm not sanguine at all that the analysis provided in the above article is entirely true... now, or within the next 2 years is the time to invade Taiwan while Trump is in complete control of US governance.

The point you implicitly make, perhaps without even realising it, is that they are the same.

No, the comment I made was quite clear. The resulting battles and warfare raged is often akin to WW1 with trench warfare, almost hand to hand combat and going over the top to try and claim small bits of land at huge human cost. Neither can win, both know that.

The Big 3! Hardly mate. The Big 2, absolutely.

We can pretend all day long they no longer matter mate but that isn’t the case unfortunately.

What’s about to unfold will be utterly distasteful to the vast majority of us but unfold it will.

The world will move on and hand’s shaken and business and money will start to flow again.

Your comment is indeed very clear.

You don't think the opinions of Ukrainians as to their future matters, and you don't think it matters whether Russia is rewarded for its aggression.
