Negotiating what before the escalation? the escalation was Russia invading, 40 mile long columns of tanks on the outskirts of Kyiv, Russia building up forces at the border claiming they were exercises and nothing to worry about so there wasn't any negotiation point. there was no verbal threat of invasion before they actually invaded.

Am also thinking that if only the Dutch had pulled their fingers out and damn well compromised harder, they wouldn't have been responsible for forcing the Russians to down a passenger jet and kill 300 people.

He's lost 100's of thousands of troops, most of his tanks and APC's, most of his artilery (they're using fucking donkeys to resupply what they do have, yes donkeys !), and he daren'y fly his planes near to Ukraine. He can fire missiles and drones at Ukraine like a terrorist, but that's about it.

The demograph of his current pupulation has a major shortage of men between 16 and 40 (perhaps even 50 by now), and a majorly ageing population elsewhere.

He can barely take weakly defended villages, and can't take back his own territory from Ukraine, these are actual facts, yet people still talk like he can invade europe to the english channel, Portugal, and Svalbard.

It's quite simply bollocks.

This is why it confuses me when commentators keep insisting that any agreement needs a US backstop.

Obviously it would be handy if the US were on side, but you would think that the major European nations have enough firepower to ensure Ukraine can defend itself from here on out.

Even if we can't defend Ukraine, we're not going to roll over for putin to rush across the continent next week, especially when he's struggling to take the odd field or tree line in Ukraine, the thought of it is simply ridiculous.

I agree, I can't see how he can push into a pre-warned tooled-up country to the west of Russia.
 
All of Trump's actions are motivated to heighten tension in Europe giving the hawks in each country the benefit of forcing greater defence spending. And where will the majority of the arms be purchased from. The good old USA . Beefing up their economy.
