Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

I hope Pep has new ideas and hunger and motivation for this huge rebuild job. he looks just as tired in some ways as Bernardo to me. personal life issues adds another layer onto this, his marriage etc.

we need the best of him for this rebuild to go well. best of him mentally, best of him tactically.

he never stayed as long anywhere before City where he could have reached a point of such a drop of performances. at Barca his last season wasnt great (tho not as bad as this season), and pressure got to him, also boardroom politics above his head, and he needed a year off sabbatical and he was 12-13 years younger that time.

its a big challenge for him too, a specific challenge he never faced before.
He will not be here for the full rebuild as it will take more than 4 windiwows for a full rebuild and he will be gone by then .

And who should he start?

Rodri? ACL
Kova? - WORST PLAYER ON THE SQUAD - COMPLETE TURNOVER MACHINE
Grealish? Injured
KDB? Last game.. even on 10 days rest he was tired after 20 minutes
Nunes? Turnover prone in the middle

So who does he start??
McAtee?

Genuinely curious as to what your answer is..

I seriously can't be the only one who thinks your question doesn't make sense.. but maybe what really doesn't make sense is we didn't recruit midfielders that could actually fit our system. Kalvin. Kova. Nunes.

That's where the ball was dropped and it's evident when you see our performances vs actual top midfields like PSG and Real Madrid.. They played us off the park.

It's not a fluke or one bad game anymore.. it just shows this is who we are!

It's a bit like watching your family suddenly get old and you don't understand what happened.. except it's seeing the team get old.

Maybe Pep understands it now but he's not going to be able to turn back time. A new cycle of players is needed and we need to bed in a midfield that will be able to compete because these current guys are either running on fumes or just not good enough!

Pep has gotten all he could out of them and they've given Pep and City all they could!

We need FOUR MIDFIELDERS in to phase out KDB, Gundo, Kova and Silva.

De Bruyne, Kovacic, McAtee, O'Reilly, Grealish, Nunes and Lewis were all on the bench and I'd much rather see any of them on the pitch over Bernardo or Gundo.

We'd still have ended up getting spanked last night but at least I wouldn't have to watch a couple of geriatrics waddling their fat arses around the pitch for 90 minutes. Kev is no spring chicken but at least he can do something on the ball.

I said it a week or so ago about Gundo but you can add Bernardo in there as well; they are furniture. They are simply there and nothing more.

Tbf, he does have a bit of credit in the bank. Going through a marriage breakdown is bound to have taken its toll too.
I’m not attacking pep but what I am saying is he doesn’t get the criticism he should be getting because some of his set ups have been poor and his in game management this season has been non existent at times . We keep talking about this massive rebuild and pep will sort it but we are in a mess and unless pep stays longer than 2 seasons he he. He won’t finish the rebuild . Peps record cannot be touched and he has broken his hat many records but has we say to Man Utd fans who go on about past titles it’s history and we are now in the present . For the record we will never sack pep and rightly so but he does deserve criticism like every body else .

If he had ideas about winning I cannot fathom why he started Gundogan. At least Kovacic offers some energy.

It would be interesting to see the G/A stats whilst Gundogan's been on the pitch this season.

i've not seen people say he isn't above criticism it's the reactionary comments about wanting him gone if people want him gone then that's fine but my question is who do you bring in and how long do you give them

I agree, he's made some shockingly poor decisions over the last 12 months, from bad signings, non existent signings and plain weird team selection.

Obviously what he has achieved with us get's him an almost free pass, but he is far from been beyond criticism .

Hopefully the next 3 months, one game a week and lot's of time on the training ground , he will shape the players that will be around next season and leave the oldies on the sidelines.

i'd argue

its his odd subs that do me or the lack of them or reluctant to play mcatee or o'reilly in the middle but at the same time whenever we get a good result gain confidence one or two more players get injured which knocks us back and oddly the 2 players who never get injured are silva and gundo so in sense you can see why pep used them be use there always available

Time for him to concentrate on next season with what's left of this season.

No more Gundo, Kev, Bernie, Stones or Kova.

The 4 signings we made in the winter must start every game from now until the end of the season. They are the next generation.of greats.

Also he has to give more playing time to the EDS lads, so we can gauge where we are with them.

Well Pep has won it all and one of season gets stick by a one or two fans so a new manager comes in he gets no time he doesn't win the league they'd want him out!

Can you name a team that was amazingly successful with a top manager, then dipped dramatically as we have and then returned to be amazing again undef the same top manager?

Maybe there are loads of examples but I can't think of any. (Maybe Ferguson but his latter success was paper thin)
City in 20/21 after a shit 19/20

I'm sure back then this thread was full of really clever people saying such things like "past performance is no guarantee of future success" and "the game has left him behind."

We have to play whatever our best 11 is as much as possible. This season is not over for us by a long shot we've still got to get into the the top 4 and secure at least a champs lge qualifier. Plus the FA cup. If it includes all the new lads and the eds lads every week then so be it but first and foremost get the best possible side on the pitch every game now. The rest of this season isn't a free hit still a lot to play for.

I am getting a bit peeved with this constant bemoaning of the opposition being too strong and fast for us. He built this team. He decided to go with slow, weak players on the basis that we would control games. He oversaw the removal of pace and power from this side. He can’t have it both ways.
Couldnt have said it any better. Long gone are the days when this team relied on pace and power. Pep would rather have the current Gundo than Prime Yaya Toure because Gundo is a good boy.

Not heard anyone say "the game has left him behind" but he and the club have made huge errors.

It looked likely he would leave this summer and hence the lack of transfer activity in the last 18 months, that has come back to haunt us badly.

He stays and I am delighted, but the indecision has cost us and could take some time to recover.

I think we're already half-way through the rebuild, Wirtz and a RB in the summer with Rodri coming back and the squad is ready to challenge.
Another 4 or 5 signings required and 3 of those have to be elite players for me and that is going to be expensive and difficult in one hit.
