Running thread

Did 26k this morning with a bunch of my mates. Felt great and even pushed for a 4:08km at the end.

I’ve started a mixture of cycling/running and so far I feel like the increased volume of training (I’m able to do with my indoor bike) is really paying dividends!

You following any sort of training plan on the indoor bike?

Signed up to the Chester Triple starting with the 10k on the 9th.

Going to take myself to a dark corner and think about what I've just done.

I'm doing the Marathon in October - is that part of the triple? If so, hopefully I'll see you in your City shirt like me ;)

I have subscribed to Zwift. I've just been doing some group rides and completing the routes whilst trying to stay in heart rate zone 1/2.

They do have training plans on there, but my plan is just to increase Z2 training volume. On a normal week now, I'll do 4 runs (1 long, 2 easy, 1 faster/intervals etc) and 2 or 3 rides (all easy). Gone from training 4 times per week, to 6/7.

Sure is, that's the final leg, with the half in May. I did it in 2023 when I first came back to running, the last 6miles broke me a bit. Hopefully stronger and fitter this year.
Not sure I could run it in my City shirt, not quite comfy enough but I'll keep an eye out for you!

Thought the marathon was in middle of May, didn't realise it was 9 weeks tomorrow.

Possible to train in 9 weeks for it? I'm assuming 7 weeks heavy and taper for 2?

I say so if you are relatively fit … would suggest hitting 10k at least next week and a few 5k’s … weekend after 8-10 miler … weekend after that half marathon … then weekend after a 15-18 miler … gives you a few weeks to decrease the mileage again.
Personally a taper doesn’t work for me in my previous Marathon experiences… I’m happier hitting the long long runs with a couple weeks to go and decreasing mileage a bit but not having a week off before Marathon.
If that all makes sense!

This morning's Isabel Trail Parkrun completed in 29:18.
The milder weather was a shock to the system as I last trained on Tuesday when it was nice and cool.

Delamere parkrun today in 38:32, my slowest ever parkrun. It's my first run for over two weeks though, after illness and injury. Also, it wasn't the usual course. It had two laps of a steep hill. It was so steep that you had to check your pace on the downhill for fear of picking up too much momentum. Not the best parkrun experience. I'm told they should be back to the proper course next week, after needing to move a tree.

Depends how fit you are.
If you're in the sort of shape where you could go and run a half marathon fairly comfortably you'll be fine. Or if you're doing 40-50km a week already, then you should be okay.

Don't overdo it though or you'll get injured, make sure you still get your strength training in.

Defer it if you know you won't be ready.

Was out this morning for my usual circuit runs.

I played footy Thurs night ,had a half decent game ,although our side lost 4nil...it has been a tight nil nil for half the match but the reds ( boo) slowly started to convert their chances, whilst we missed chance after chance.

I wasn't happy with my performance and was aching after playing ,so Friday morning I did 20 of my usual circuits down by the river bank,at a slow pace but with a sprint finish uphill each time ,with a min rest. In between .

This morning ,I was surprised to see the sun out,and this gave me inspiration. I managed 30 circuits ,all at a slow pace but with a " Sprint Finale Arrivia " ( Kraftwerk - Tour de France) at the end of each circuit.

Very pleased with 30 circuits, the most I've ever done on this particular run. ,and I reflected on my performance at footy on Thursday.

I recalled quite a few moments where the opposition were bearing down on goal and I was ball watching ..." too tired" to make that burst of energy to make a defensive challenge ....but thought of the many times I made forward runs into space ,screaming for the ball........and told myself I must get fitter ,so I can run back...as well as run forward !!
Funny how the mind plays tricks on you....if there's a chance to score you find energy.....; defensive duties?
Oh...I'm not quite sure.....it's just laziness. Hopefully the interim runs will stand me in good stead for next week's match.

A lovely mild morning , saw Robin Carion Crow Cormorant and a Little White Egret in graceful flight ...and because the sun was out,a Common Buzzard was spotted ,riding the thermals high above me.

All in all, a fantastic morning of fitness...out in nature.
